Name: Michael Kerr
City of Residence: Hubbard
Party Affiliation: Democratic
Office Desired: Councilman at large Hubbard City
Facebook: Mike Kerr for Hubbard Council at Large

Why I should be elected
I am running for council at large because I am committed to improving the Hubbard community. With a lifetime of service in the Healthcare industry I am dedicated to preventing the spread of drug use and related crime activity. As a member of the Eagle Joint Fire District and my career at Mercy Health, I am experienced in grant proposal writing and working with the State and Federal Government in improving emergency preparedness.

Top three priorities
1) Families- I want to work with the mayor, police, fire and elected officials on maintaining the safety of our Hubbard families. I have been active volunteering on various committees for over 30 years while my children were growing up. I plan on retiring in Hubbard. I am committed to improving housing and building codes. I would like to address the utility payment rates and look at other options to achieve the lowest possible rates for our citizens.

2) Infrastructure- would like to look at the feasibility of developing a road replacement and improvement program, work with the county to obtain grant dollars for managing trees that have lifted and destroyed sidewalks and possible repair. Debris management that goes into our sewer system. Re-establish the Joint Economic Development District JEDD.

3) Safety- look into the effectiveness of the mosquito spraying program and look at alternate options, look into our rodent abatement program. Look at funding for a “clean up day” once a year in Hubbard to assist residents in reducing clutter which attracts rodents and small wild animals. I also would like to look into drug prevention and education for All ages. I would like to support the police on curbing crime activity in the Hubbard community.

Biography
Over 30 years ago I married my wife Sandy from Hubbard and chose to raise our three children in this safe and loyal city. For many years I held the position of secretary of the Hubbard Volunteer Fire Department. I am still a volunteer on the Eagle Joint Fire District. While our children; Rachael, Joshua, and Benjamin were growing up I volunteered as a HCYL soccer coach and a Cub Scout leader. I volunteered as a Hubbard Band Sponsor working the concession stand for 10 years. Presently I am a Sunday school teacher at St Patrick’s church in Hubbard and volunteer as a reader and member of the choir. As a paramedic I was on the Disaster Medical Assistance Team DMAT with the Department of Homeland Security and was activated to disasters in the United States. Using my training, knowledge and experience in developing and coordinating Mass casualty drills in Hubbard, I hoped to have bring more awareness and preparedness to our city. I have worked at Mercy Health for 33 years and humbly accepted the Ohio Hospital Association “Healthcare Worker of the Year award”. I have used my experience and knowledge to write and obtain grants for the Hubbard Fire Department and three Simulation Labs at Mercy Health. I volunteered with the American Heart Association’s international team and set up a CPR and Advanced Cardiac Life Support Program in South Korea. I attempt to demonstrate a lifelong commitment to serving others and am always looking for ideas to improve and keep safe the city I call Home.
