YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – After nearly 60 years, a downtown Youngstown business is about to call it quits.

The owner of Jerry Lee’s Jewelers said he has decided to hold a going out of business sale and is planning to close for good by mid-June. Rich Thomashow has operated inside 20 Federal Place since it was known as the old headquarters of Phar-Mor in the early 1980s and before that the store was in the old Higbee’s Arcade.

But Thomashow said he is now wanting to spend more time with his grandchildren in Oregon.

“I figure that I want to see them grow up and if I don’t do it now, when they get older, they will have their own friends, their own activities, so we just decided now is the time to do it,” he said.

Thomashow said he has seen plenty of changes downtown, especially in recent years where many of the retail and office businesses left and eventually were replaced by new restaurants and other shops that are busy mainly at night.
