2:43 p.m. – Southern Boulevard NW and Clearwater Street, Pierre Williams, Jr., 28, charged with failure to comply with a police officer, driving under suspension and traffic violations. Police tried to pull Williams over for rolling a stop sign but said he would not stop and led them on a high-speed chase. They said he eventually pulled into a driveway and ran out of the car. Williams finally got down on the ground after an officer pointed a gun at him and ordered him to, according to a police report. Officers found a bag of suspected crack cocaine that they think Williams threw, police said. He could face more charges after drug lab test results come back.
7:14 p.m. – Oak Street SW and Highland Avenue SW, Jennifer Whaley, 38, of Columbiana, arrested and charged with failure to comply with police officer, receiving stolen property, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving under suspension, disregard of safety and endangering children. Police responded to a report of a car stolen from Walgreens. They found the stolen car and tried to pull over its driver — Whaley — but said the car sped away. Police followed it until Whaley eventually stopped, according to a report. Officers said there was a 3-year-old girl in a car seat in the back. Though she wasn’t hurt, police said her clothes were soaked in urine. The grandmother, who was also the owner of the stolen vehicle, came to pick up the child. Police said they also found a glass crack pipe in the car.
Saturday, February 23
9:07 a.m. – 1500 block of Youngstown Rd. SE, report of shots fired into the air. Police were not able to find the person who did it.
4:49 p.m. – 200 block of Dickey Ave. NW, Charles Streeter, 32, charged with discharging firearms near a school, using weapons while intoxicated and having weapons under disability; Amy Smeltzer, 28, of Youngstown, charged with obstructing official business; Brenda Sousa, 36, charged with obstructing official business. Police responded to a report of a man firing shots into the air. When officers got to the house where they were told the man went, the woman who opened the door — Smeltzer — said there was no man there. They gave police permission to search the house and officers said they found guns inside. Police found Streeter hiding in the attic, they said. Officers said they also found shotgun shells at the shooting scene.
