Liberty crime activity: Police say man was using heroin in Walmart bathroom

Police investigated the following incidents in Liberty from May 31 - June 7:

Thursday, May 31

4:46 p.m. - 2100 block of Churchill Rd., police said blacktop sealer was poured over a portrait on a tombstone at the Churchill Cemetery. Other items left at the grave site were also damaged. The family of the deceased believed that a disgruntled family member had vandalized the grave. 

Friday, June 1

2 p.m. - 200 block of Goldie Rd., a 30-year-old Youngstown man is facing charges after it was reported that he was shooting heroin in the Walmart bathroom. When first questioned outside of the store, police said the man told officers that he was waiting for a ride and had an "upset stomach." Police said he later admitted to having heroin and two needles on him. Police are testing the suspected drugs. 

2:56 p.m. - 3900 block of Belmont Ave., report of criminal damaging. Police said two people drove away after putting gas in their vehicle at Conroy's Express Shell, breaking the hose. According to a witness, the woman in the car then stopped, pulled the nozzle out of the car and threw it on the ground before driving away. 

Monday, June 4

1:15 p.m. - 5500 block of Logan Arms Dr., a woman reported that she was scammed out of $11,500 after being informed that she had won $800,000 in the lottery but that she would need to mail money for taxes and fees. The woman said she was also instructed to send a $1,000 cell phone to a location in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Tuesday, June 5

2:50 a.m. - Belmont Avenue and Churchill Road, Jason Wardega, 44, of Warren, was arrested on warrants and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, driving under suspension, driving without a license and turns at intersections. Police said they found a burned glass meth pipe after searching the vehicle during a traffic stop. 

3:21 a.m. - 6300 Klines Dr., reported burglary. Police said a resident's home surveillance video captured video of a boy pulling on doors of the home. Several other neighbors reported someone pulling on their doors during the same time period. 

1:30 p.m. - 4000 block of Monticello Blvd., police said the manager of an apartment found cocaine in the laundry room and turned it into police.

3:15 p.m. - 1400 block of Townsend Ave., Brittan Kimbrough, charged with burglary. Police said a woman picked up Kimbrough from jail earlier that morning. Police said she called police after he kicked in her door when she locked him out of the apartment, fearing for the safety of her children. The woman reported that Kimbrough broke in the door and screamed at her before leaving, according to a police report. Police were unable to find him and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Wednesday, June 6

2:23 a.m. - Belmont Avenue and Trumbull Avenue, Kevin Carter, 59, of Youngstown, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, driving under suspension, driving without a license, use of authorized plates and expired plates. Police said Carter jumped out of his vehicle and said he didn't have a driver's license during a traffic stop. Carter also told police that he put his friend's license plate on the car.

Thursday, June 7

12:01 a.m. - 4000 block of Belmont Ave., police said a man made a threat that he was going to shoot someone inside of Denny's restaurant as he was leaving. Police said the man who filed the police report was then asked to leave the restaurant after he began arguing with a manager and swinging his cane.
