Friday, March 8
10:50 a.m. – 400 block of W. Liberty St., John Bottenfield, 53, of Hermitage, Pa., arrested and charged with speeding and possession of heroin and cocaine. Jason Jones, 35, of Youngstown, arrested and charged with trafficking in drugs and possession of heroin and cocaine. Police said during a traffic stop, an officer smelled marijuana and asked to search the vehicle. Police said the driver, Bottenfield, and passenger, Jones, were found with drugs. Police said they were informed that Jones had been selling the drugs.
Saturday, March 9
12:31 a.m. – 200 block of School St., police received a report that someone was supposed to go to the school and “shoot it up” on Monday. The principal told police that there was a pushing match between two students who were disciplined but still attending school. The principal said after that, rumors of the school shooting were spread on Facebook. Police said it was determined that the rumors were unfounded and that there was no legitimate threat of a shooting. They had extra patrols by the school that day anyway.
5:56 p.m. – 100 block of N. Princeton Rd., Jeffrey Tessman, 53, of Kent, arrested on a warrant.
Sunday, March 10
7:22 p.m. – 800 block of W. Liberty St., police received a report that a 12-year-old girl was shoplifting from the Dollar General store. Police were unable to find the stolen items, and the girl was released.
Monday, March 11
2:54 p.m. – 300 block of Prescott St., police were called to a home to assist with an eviction. Police said the man being evicted was yelling and refusing to leave. Police said he huffed two aerosol cans and had to be taken to the hospital.
Tuesday, March 12
12:35 a.m. – 600 block of Moore St., police were called by someone who said her dad was trying to get people out of a home that was on fire. An officer assisted the residents as they were coming out of the house with their dogs.
5:41 p.m. – 500 block of N. Main St., an employee at Shop ‘n Save reported finding a bag containing a substance that appeared to be marijuana near the buggies in the lobby. The item was placed into evidence.
9:32 p.m. – 800 block of Coitsville-Hubbard Rd., Joseph Allen, Jr., 24, of Youngstown, arrested on a warrant for failure to appear in court.
11:45 p.m. – 200 block of Rebecca Ave., a man reported that he and his fiancee are being harassed by his ex-girlfriend. Police contacted the woman who said the man has actually been harassing her. They were warned to cease communication with one another, according to a police report.
