1:55 a.m. – 7600 block of South Ave., an intoxicated man reported that he believed that his friend was trying to take advantage of him. He said the suspect groped him outside of the bar and he believed the suspect was getting him drunk to take advantage of him. Police are investigating.
2:08 a.m. – 7600 block of South Ave., police found a man lying in the grass between Lumber Liquidators and the Lanai Lounge. Police said the man, who was highly intoxicated, would go from being polite and crying to screaming that officers were going to beat him up. He was taken to the hospital for treatment, according to a police report.
8:39 p.m. – 4000 block of South Ave., an employee at Family Dollar said a man who appeared to be “drunk” was acting strangely in the store and had a bulge protruding from his back that wasn’t there when he entered. The employee said she asked the man if he was going to pay for what was hidden in his jacket and he replied, “Nope” and left the store.
10:16 p.m. – 1300 block of Doral Dr., Darnell Curry, 23, and Terrell Riddle, 27, each charged with theft. Walmart employees said the men tried stealing a 70-inch television from the store, but it got stuck in the doorway as they were leaving. When asked to show their receipt for the TV, the suspects left, leaving the TV behind, according to a police report. They were arrested nearby.
Sunday, May 5
2:30 p.m. – 7400 block of Eagle Trace, a woman reported being threatened by a caller who had access to her computer. She said she was on the computer when her mouse stopped working and a pop-up reading “Windows Support Alert” came up on the screen. The woman said she called the number on the pop-up and spoke with a woman who asked her to go to a website. The woman then took control over her computer. The woman said a man called later, saying he had access to her personal information.
Monday, May 6
1:27 p.m. – 600 block of Maple Ave., a woman reported being scammed by someone who called saying there was an issue with her Social Security number. The caller told her that a vehicle rented in her name was found abandoned on the road containing seven pounds of cocaine and a large amount of money. The man said her Social Security card was found in the vehicle and asked her to verify it was hers, according to a police report. The woman told police that she provided her Social Security number to the caller who hung up after asking her to agree to work with them to get the situation resolved.
2:18 p.m. – 5600 block of South Ave., a woman reported that a bag containing $32 was stolen from her room at Park Center. Police reviewed surveillance video, which showed another resident entering the woman’s room. Police said no other employees or residents entered the room. They’re investigating.
3:45 p.m. – 1300 block of Doral Dr., Michael Slepski, 49, arrested on a warrant and charged with criminal trespass. Police said Slepski had been shopping at Walmart, although he was prohibited from returning to the store.
