Boardman crime activity: Group tries breaking into Miller Rod and Gun


Wednesday, Feb. 20

7:11 p.m. – 600 block of Angiline Dr., a man reported that a vehicle drove through his front yard, hitting a small tree and causing ruts in the lawn and damage to landscaping.

Thursday, Feb. 21

12:36 p.m. – 1000 block of Tiffany South, reported theft of a vehicle. Police were given the name of a suspect.

Friday, Feb. 22

3:23 a.m. – 900 block of Cook Ave., police received a report that someone fired shots in an apartment. Officers found two shattered windows but said there was no evidence that they were shot at with a gun. Officers did find two sets of footprints in the snow near the windows. The woman living there reported hearing “gunshot pops,” glass shattering and a car speeding off. She said she does not have any enemies and couldn’t think of why her apartment would be targeted.

10 a.m. – 8200 block of Market St., Danielle DeFalco, 23, turned herself in on a felony theft charge. Police said DeFalco, an employee of Huntington Bank, stole $14,000 from an ATM located inside of Giant Eagle on Boardman-Canfield Road.

2:50 p.m. – 8200 block of Market St., Dennis Gardner, 38, of Youngstown, arrested on a domestic violence charge. Police said earlier that day, Gardner hit a woman in the face with her purse. Police said the woman had a red mark on her face and reported previous abuse by Gardner.

5 p.m. – 7200 block of Claybourne Ave., Sohail Awan, 32, arrested and charged with domestic violence. A caller reported finding a woman with a ripped shirt and red marks on her neck, and said the woman reported she was “beaten up” by Awan. Awan denied the assault, saying the woman slipped and fell on the grass. Police said Awan has a previous domestic violence conviction. Police said the woman later denied that the assault had occurred.

Saturday, Feb. 23

10:18 a.m. – 5200 block of Market St., Amanda Swantek, 39, charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. Police went to the Town and Country Motel to look for Swantek, who was reported as missing and endangered from New Middletown. Swantek was found hiding in a room and told officers she was fine, according to a report. Police said she was found with needles and a glass pipe.

12:11 p.m. – 8100 block of Tod Ave., a maintenance worker said someone broke into a vacant rental property, urinated in the toilet and left three cigarette butts behind. Nothing appeared to be missing, according to a police report.

9:07 p.m. – 7400 block of Market St., a man reported seeing a teenage boy jumping on the hood of his co-worker’s vehicle, which was parked at the Southern Park Mall. The man said he yelled at the boy, who then kicked the mirror off of the car and ran toward Tinseltown.

Monday, Feb. 25

4:31 p.m. – 5100 block of Youngstown Poland Rd., a landlord discovered a broken lock at Miller Rod and Gun. Police said surveillance video showed four people hanging around the building, specifically near the door where the broken lock was discovered. The business owner believed the group had been involved in a previous attempted break-in at the store.

5:08 p.m. – 7000 block of Tiffany Blvd., a medical employee reported that she discovered her account was being used to order prescriptions despite her deactivating it three years ago. She said she tried changing her password, but someone kept reactivating the account using her information.
