**On August 4, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine mandated masks be worn by all K-12 students in school, with some exceptions for disabilities or deformities.

COLUMBIANA COUNTY

  • Beaver Local Schools
    • First day of school: Tuesday, Sept. 8
    • Classes: Two options — return to school in person five days a week OR online learning. Parents should fill out a Return to School Learning Form online for each student by August 11 at 2 p.m. If the county reaches Level 4 (purple) in regard to COVID-19 spread, every child will learn remotely. If the county reaches Level 3 (red), there will be a hybrid model in which students are in school some days and learning remotely some days.
    • Safety precautions: Social distancing, daily health checks, daily hygiene habits, cleaning and sanitizing throughout the day and at the end of the day. There will be hand sanitizer available throughout the schools. Visitors will be limited. Parents are strongly encouraged to transport students to and from school each day.     • First day of school: Tuesday, Sept. 8
    • Classes: Two options — in-person instruction five days a week OR online learning through Potter Kiln Academy. Parents must choose an option for their children by completing an online survey by Aug. 11 at 3 p.m. If the county is designated Level 3 (red) or Level 4 (purple), all students will learn remotely. Potentially, if the county is Level 2 (orange), there will be a hybrid learning model where students learn in person some days and remotely some days.

    • Classes: Students will attend in-person classes full-time OR participate in online learning. Whatever the choice is, it’ll be a commitment of nine weeks. Parents must register their children for one of the options by Aug. 10. There’s the potential for everyone to move to online learning if the coronavirus situation worsens.

  • Leetonia Schools
    • First day of school: Phased start dates beginning Monday, Aug. 24
    • Classes: The first two weeks of school will be a phased re-entry. Two groups of students will be split alphabetically by last name, attending two days each week. Families with two last names will be placed in the same group. The goal is to have everyone back for in-person classes by Sept. 8. If the county is designated Level 3 (red), there will be a hybrid learning model where students will attend class in person some days and remotely some days.     • Classes: Option A — in-person classes with safety precautions. Option B — remote learning closely resembling what students experienced in the spring. For Option B, students will be provided with a Chromebook and will need to have internet access. The child will continue with their chosen option through the first semester (Jan. 29). You will be able to choose an option for the second semester at a later date.
    • Safety precautions: Increased disinfecting and cleaning. Social distancing will be maintained where possible. Staff members will be required to wear a face covering. Students will have access to sanitation and hand washing stations. Water fountains will not be used. If a student shows COVID-19 symptoms, they’ll be sent home.
  • Southern Local Schools
    • First day of school: Thursday, Aug. 20
    • Classes: Parents can choose one of two options for their child. OPTION A In-person classes — Students will attend school in person during normal hours and days. OPTION B Online learning platform — Students learn from home online, Monday through Friday. Virtual Learning Academy and Google Classroom, among other online resources, will be used. Students will receive a Chromebook and will be provided with bagged breakfasts and lunches. Online students will have support and monitoring from a Southern Local teacher. Whichever option you choose, you’re committing to for the first semester of the school year (August through January).
    • Safety precautions: In the buildings, there will be increased cleaning and sanitation. Every effort will be made to keep kids three to six feet apart. Children with COVID-19 symptoms will be screened and may be sent home. Students will have access to hand sanitizer and hand washing areas throughout the day. Drinking directly from water fountains will not be permitted, though they can be used to refill water bottles. Guidelines may be adjusted depending on Columbiana County’s public emergency level designation.
  • United Local Schools
    • First day of school: Monday, Aug. 31
    • Classes: Two options — strictly remote or face-to-face. If students participate in remote learning, they could choose to return to face-to-face at quarter breaks. They will also still be able to participate in extra-curriculars and school events. If students choose face-to-face instruction, the district is starting the first two weeks of school with a staggered opening. Students who choose face-to-face instruction can switch to remote learning at any time.
    • Safety precautions: In the schools, students will be spaced three feet apart. There will only be two students per seat on the bus. Students’ temperatures will be checked upon entering the building. There will be extra cleaning and hand washing throughout the day. Visitors and volunteers will be limited.   • Wellsville Local Schools
    • First day of school: Wednesday, Aug. 26
    • Classes: In-person classes, but there will be an online option for families who don’t want to send their kids back. If you’d like to register your child for cyber school, contact their principal.

MAHONING COUNTY

  • Austintown Local Schools
    • First day of school: Monday, Aug. 31
    • Classes: Three options — traditional face-to-face learning five days a week at the school, remote learning at home following the regular building schedule with a teacher or e-learning in which students will be educated through a self-paced online learning program. Those who decide on remote learning will need to fill out an electronic form. Parents will need to fill out a survey online by Friday, July 31 to choose one of these options for their children.
    • Safety precautions: All students will have their temperatures taken when they arrive. Hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes will be provided throughout the school buildings and hand sanitizer will be provided on buses. Classrooms will have desk barriers, which each student will be responsible for sanitizing, and seats will be assigned for the entire school year. There will be extra cleaning by staff members throughout the day. There will only be two students to a seat on the bus and those seats will be assigned for the entire school year. Parents will be notified if someone in the building tests positive for COVID-19.
  • Boardman Local Schools
    • First day of school: Monday, Sept. 14
    • Classes: Two learning options — in-person classes every day or remote learning from home. Students learning from home will still be able to participate in extra-curriculars. The remote learning option is a nine-week commitment. If you would like to register your child for remote learning in the fall, you must fill out a registration form by Friday, August 7. All school and academic fees have been waived for the first semester. Start and dismissal times have also been adjusted to make room for personal, face-to-face time with remote learners before class.

  • Campbell City Schools
    • First day of school: Monday, Aug. 31
    • Classes: Parents will have two options for their children — five days a week of face-to-face instruction or entirely remote learning. Those who participate in face-to-face instruction will still have electronic assignments and access to technology to smoothly transition to full remote learning if the state requires it. There will also be provisions for morning and afternoon enrichment for younger students as a solution for working parents.
    • Safety precautions: The school day will be 5 3/4 hours with consideration for social distancing, small group busing, daily student temperature checks, nutrition, etc.
  • Canfield Local Schools
    • First day of school: Tuesday, Sept. 8 (students in kindergarten through 4th grade will go to school for one hour on either Sept. 8 or 9 — more instructions will be provided for parents later)
    • Classes: Two options — in-person or online. If a student goes back to in-person instruction, what that looks like will depend on the severity of the coronavirus situation. It could be in-person classes five days a week, a hybrid model of some days in person and some days learning remotely, or emergency remote learning via Google Classroom every day. Parents can choose to have their child enrolled entirely in online instruction through Cardinal Digital Academy. The deadline to enroll is August 14.
    • Safety precautions: Social distancing, extra cleaning and sanitizing. Meals will be served either in the cafeteria with limited, assigned seating or in the classroom. Students will have to sanitize their hands when entering a classroom, as well as clean their desks and seats at the end of class. There will be no shared materials, water fountains will not be available, and there will be no lockers for grades 5-12. Student with symptoms will be isolated until they can be picked up. Temperatures will be checked upon arrival with a scanner. There will be assigned seats on buses. Visitors are not permitted.
  • Horizon Science Academy – Youngstown
    • First day of school: Tuesday, Sept. 8
    • Classes: The school year will start with fully remote learning for at least the first semester. Students will get Chromebooks during orientation meetings, which are scheduled for the week of Aug. 24.
  • Jackson-Milton Local Schools
    • First day of school: Wednesday, Sept. 9
    • Classes: The plan is to return to in-person instruction in the fall. This plan is subject to change and everyone should be prepared to go to completely online learning if the coronavirus situation worsens (the county is designated Level 4 – purple). Parents can choose an online option for their child, regardless of what the district decides to do. Once a family makes a choice for their child, that can only be changed at the end of a grading period.
    • Safety precautions: Temperatures will be checked when you come into the building via a scanner. Students will sanitize their hands when they enter a classroom. Social distancing will be maintained and there will be dividers for classroom tables. Water fountains will only be used for refilling water bottles. If a family travels to a state on Ohio’s advisory list, the student will have to quarantine for 14 days. Locker rooms will be for athletes only. Regular cleaning and disinfecting. Buses will have assigned seats. There will be several changes in the cafeteria to limit touch services and shared items. Students will have assigned seats in the cafeteria. Visitors to the school will be limited. The band and cheerleaders will not attend away games at this time.
  • Leonard Kirtz School
    • First day of school: Tuesday, Sept. 8
    • Classes: For the first nine weeks of the upcoming school year, Leonard Kirtz School will not have in-person learning.
  • Lowellville Local Schools
    • First day of school: Monday, Aug. 31
    • Classes: Completely online for the first nine weeks; in-person will not be offered. There will be structured, live lessons with teachers through Zoom or Google Classroom, as well as additional instructional support on Wednesdays. Some lessons will be for the whole class and others will be for small groups.
  • Mahoning County Career & Technical Center
    • First day of school: Monday, Aug. 24, for Juniors and STEM students with last names A-K. For seniors and STEM students with last names L-Z, Tuesday, August 25.
    • Classes: Three options — return fully to in-person instruction, online learning (this will only be implemented if mandated) or a combination of both.
    • Safety precautions: Social distancing to the fullest extent possible where required or recommended.
  • Poland School District
    • First day of school: Tuesday, Sept. 8
    • Classes: In-person learning — six hours a day, five days a week — is being offered to all students in grades K-12. A remote instruction only option is also available.
    • Safety Precautions: The plan calls for health screenings, protective barriers, social distancing, hand sanitizer stations, COVID isolation rooms and building ventilation changes, among other measures. Enhanced cleaning and sanitation will take place targeting high touch areas such as desks, tables, chairs, door handles, stair rails restrooms, lockers and other common areas. Students will have assigned seats on the buses, and they will be sanitized after morning and afternoon routes.
  • Sebring Local Schools
    • First day of school: Monday, Aug. 24
    • Classes: Option 1 — students return to the school buildings with safety guidelines in place. If Mahoning County is classified as Level 4 (purple), the district will consider remote learning. Option 2 — Sebring Online Academy (curriculum provided by Edgenuity through an eCohort). Complete virtual learning that will be different than what students experienced in the spring with Google Meet. This option will be available for parents who do not feel comfortable sending their child to school. Under option 2, students will be provided with a device to use at home.
    • Safety precautions: Under option 1, there will be several restrictions in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Social distancing will be maintained where possible and shields have been installed on the desks. One reusable mask will be provided to each staff member and child. There will be assigned seats on the bus. There are sanitation stations throughout the building and students will be required to sanitize their hands when they arrive at school. Staff members’ and students’ temperatures will be checked daily using a walk-through thermal scanner. Breakfast will be served in the classroom and students will have assigned seats at lunch. Water fountains will not be available. The buildings will be sanitized throughout the day and each night.
  • South Range Local Schools
    • First day of school: Tuesday, Sept. 8
    • Classes: Hybrid model in which children will attend in-person classes on certain days of the week and learn remotely the other days of the week. There will be one start and end time — the school day will be 7:50 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. There will be one bus route with assigned seats on the bus. Families have the option of choosing entirely online learning if they don’t want to send their children back to the building. That choice can be either a nine-week or year-long commitment. If you want to register your child for completely online learning, contact their school secretary by August 7.
    • Safety precautions: Lockers will be assigned to maintain social distancing. Students in kindergarten through 6th grade will eat in their classrooms behind a desk shield. Students in 7th through 12th grade will rotate into the lunchroom and there will be assigned tables. Recess will be spread out throughout the day to limit the number of kids having recess at one time. Hallway travel, arrival and dismissal will be reduced by 50%. Desks will be spaced out to maintain social distancing. Regular cleaning and disinfecting. There will be an isolation room for students with symptoms. Water fountains will not be available, but students can bring water bottles. There will be sanitizing stations throughout the building.
  • Springfield Local Schools
    • First day of school: Wednesday, Sept. 9
    • Classes: Families can choose traditional, in-person learning five days a week OR an entirely remote learning option for their students. The district will have to move everyone to remote learning if the county is designated Level 4 (purple). Whatever you choose, it’s a nine-week commitment.
    • Safety precautions: Social distancing, daily health checks, hand washing and sanitizing, regular cleaning and disinfecting throughout the day and at the end of the day. Temperatures will be checked upon entering the building via a thermal screening device. Visitors will be limited. There will be assigned seats on the bus.   • Struthers City Schools
    • First day of school: Monday, Aug. 31
    • Classes: Parents can choose one of two options for their children. OPTION 1 “All In” – Students are committed to attending class in-person five days a week for at least a nine-week period at the middle and high schools or a 12-week period at the elementary school. Students will be given a Chromebook. OPTION 2 Remote Learning – Students are committed to learning at home for at least a nine-week period for middle and high schoolers or a 12-week period for elementary schoolers. Students will be given a Chromebook. They will follow their assigned schedule and log onto Google Classroom for instruction. Breakfast and lunch will be “grab and go.” Waiver from principal needed for sports or extra-curriculars.
    • Safety precautions: If in-person, there will be social distancing in the classrooms, temperature screenings at each building, desk shields, additional cleaning and handwashing/sanitizing breaks. For grades 3-6, teachers will rotate classes. Students will be responsible for wiping their own desks before going to the next class. There will be no visitors and no sharing of supplies and materials. No field trips or large assemblies.

  • Ursuline High School
    • First day of school: Thursday, Aug. 27
    • Classes: School will open in the fall for all students for full day, face-to-face instruction. School will dismiss at 2:40 p.m. Students will now have five minutes between classes. There may be a shift to a remote or hybrid learning model, depending on the coronavirus situation. In this case, online learning would take place through Zoom. All students will be given a Chromebook and an online option will be provided for students who can’t return to in-person class. Students learning online will not be able to participate in activities, including sports.
    • Safety precautions: Temperatures will be taken upon arrival and each student will be asked to use hand sanitizer before entering the building. Each grade has been assigned its own entrance/exit to reduce traffic and limit exposure. Hand sanitizer will be available throughout the building. If a student’s temperature is over 100 degrees, they’ll be sent to an isolation room and may be sent home. Students are not allowed to share materials. When possible, social distancing will be maintained. Stairwells will be one-way, marked as either up or down. Plexiglass dividers will be installed in the cafeteria and students will choose their assigned lunch seat. Water fountains will be turned off, but students are allowed to have water bottles. Band and choir have been moved to different rooms. There will be no volunteers or visitors at this time. If a student will be travelling, the district is asking you let school leaders know beforehand. The building will be disinfected throughout the day and deep-cleaned regularly.
  • West Branch Local Schools
    • First day of school: Wednesday, Sept. 9
    • Classes: The district is using a color-coded chart to determine level of coronavirus threat. That threat level will determine whether students will return to in-person learning, online learning or a combination of both. If a student can’t return to in-person learning, the district will make a full-time at-home learning option available.
    • Safety precautions: Daily temperature and symptom checks for staff members and students, sanitizing, changes to the cafeteria, nonessential visitors not permitted.
  • Western Reserve Local Schools
    • First day of school: Staggered start over the course of three days — Sept. 9 to 11. The regular, five-day schedule will begin Sept. 14.
    • Classes: Parents will be able to choose to send their children back to face-to-face instruction five days a week or a remote learning model, Blue Devil Online. If the coronavirus situation worsens, in-person learning could be moved to a hybrid model (Level 3 – red) or completely online (Level 4 – purple). Complete the form to make your learning choice by August 16.
    • Safety precautions: Temperature checks, social distancing, barriers and regular hand washing. There will be assigned seats on the bus.
  • Youngstown City Schools
    • First day of school: Tuesday, Sept. 8
    • Classes: Online only. The district has a plan to get every student a device to do schoolwork at home. District-issued devices can be picked up on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1. This plan could adjust throughout the year, based on Ohio’s coronavirus numbers. School leaders are also asking parents to let them know if they have internet access at home.

MERCER COUNTY

  • Farrell Area Schools
    • First day of school: Monday, Aug. 24
    • Safety precautions: Regular cleaning and disinfecting, newly-installed HVAC system for better ventilation, hands-free water bottle filling stations instead of water fountains. Desks in classrooms will be spaced six feet apart. Some students will eat breakfast and lunch in their classrooms. Hand sanitizer will be available throughout the buildings. There will be health assessments for those with COVID-19 symptoms. Students and staff may be required to wear masks. All students who are able to are encouraged to wear masks.
  • Greenville Area Schools
    • First day of school: Wednesday, Aug. 26
    • Classes: The goal is to return to school under “as normal as possible” conditions while incorporating new safety measures. Students who are unable to attend class in person will be given online course options.
    • Safety precautions: The district will provide a face shield for each student if there is a face covering requirement in the state. If the requirement is lifted, the district will reexamine the matter. Students will be required to wear a face covering on the bus and when entering the building. Student seating will be spaced as far apart as possible. Thermal cameras will screen temperatures as students enter the building and students with a high temperature will be sent to the nurse for additional screening. There will be limited seating in the cafeteria and all menu items will be prepared ahead of time and put in individual containers. Students with COVID-19 symptoms will be sent to the nurse for additional screening. There will be hand sanitizer in each classroom. Students will sanitize their hands upon entering the classroom. There will be additional cleaning and disinfecting.
  • Grove City Area Schools
    • First day of school: Monday, Aug. 31
    • Classes: There will be three possible options for students in the fall — a traditional school schedule where students return for in-person classes, a hybrid school schedule which involves a blend of in-person and online learning, or full-time online learning. There will be a selection survey in early August for parents to choose an option for their children. At that time, more detailed descriptions of each option will be available.
    • Safety precautions: If in person, class size, room assignments, access to resources and student grouping are examples of planning modifications that will be made to follow the District Health & Safety Plan.
  • Jamestown Area Schools
    • First day of school: Thursday, Aug. 20
    • Classes: Students will attend class in-person if Mercer County is in the Yellow or Green phase. Students will learn remotely if Mercer County is in the Red phase. The goal is to completely reopen for in-person classes but there will be a distance learning option for students who are unable to attend.
    • Safety precautions: There will be additional cleaning and disinfecting throughout the school day, with deep cleaning after school. There will be hand sanitizer in each classroom. Doors and windows will be open when possible to increase circulation and new air filters will be installed. Desks will be set up to keep students six feet apart. When they’re in their seats, students will not have to wear masks. When they’re out of their seats, in hallways, or not socially distanced, they are expected to wear masks. Water bottles are encouraged and drinking fountains will be restricted. There will be assigned seats on buses, with siblings sitting together, and masks will be required. Breakfast and lunch will be eaten in classrooms. Only essential visitors will be allowed in the schools. School supplies and materials will not be shared.
  • Sharpsville Area Schools
    • First day of school: Tuesday, Sept. 8
    • Classes: The district anticipates a full return to school, five days a week. If remote learning is required, there are provisions in place to make that work. If the county is in the Yellow Phase, K-12 students would learn remotely with a live teaching model that would align to the students’ schedule. It would be different than what students experienced this spring — it would be highly structured and all teachers would use Google Classroom. Attendance would be taken with each class. This method would also enable the district to use a traditional grading system. There will be 180 days of school, whether they’re in person, remote or a combination of the two. If the county is in the Red Phase, everyone would be remote.
    • Safety precautions: Extra cleaning, disinfecting and ventilation. Desks will be spaced far apart, lunches will be staggered by class and hallway use will be staggered to maintain social distancing. Nonessential visitors will be limited. Employees and students will be required to wear face coverings under the Yellow Phase; face coverings are optional under the Green Phase. Students’ belongings will be separated and labeled. On the bus, there will be one student per seat.
  • West Middlesex Area Schools
    • First day of school: Monday, Aug. 31
    • Classes: If the county is in the Green Phase, students will be divided into two groups to start the school year and alternate which days they report in-person. When students are learning from home and not reporting to the building, they are expected to log in at scheduled class times and will receive live instruction from their teachers. In the Red Phase, all students will learn remotely.
    • Safety precautions: Face coverings are required on buses, in hallways, during arrival and dismissal, and where social distancing can’t be maintained. If the county is in the Yellow Phase, students and teachers will follow CDC recommendations for wearing face coverings. Students will not switch classrooms, teachers will travel to classrooms. Students will be spaced apart as much as possible, including at recess. Temperatures will be taken with a thermal imaging scanner upon arrival. In the elementary school, students will have assigned seats in the cafeteria and there will be a limit of three students per table. Every other week, students will eat in classrooms. In the high school, students can choose the table where they want to eat lunch but will be asked to stay there going forward. There will be two students to a table and tables will be spaced out. Desks will be arranged to maintain social distancing. Hand sanitizer will be available throughout the building. Lockers visits will be limited and there will be a limited number of students permitted in multi-stall restrooms. Volunteers will be limited. There will be staggered dismissals at the high school. Buildings will be deep-cleaned regularly.

TRUMBULL COUNTY

  • Bloomfield-Mespo Local Schools
    • First day of school: Wednesday, Aug. 26
    • Classes: The district will start the school year with a blended learning model. Students will be divided into two groups and alternate which days they report for in-person classes and which days they learn from home. All students in grades 1-12 will get a Chromebook. If the coronavirus situation worsens, there is a plan in place to move to strictly remote learning. Regardless of what the district decides, there will be an online learning option for students who can’t return to in-person classes.
    • Safety precautions: When in the buildings, social distancing will be maintained as much as possible. Staff will emphasize hygienic practices and conduct health assessments while students are in school. There will be additional disinfecting in the building.
  • Bristol Local Schools
    • First day of school: Wednesday, Aug. 26
    • Classes: To start the school year, grades 7-12 will be divided into two groups. One group will attend in-person classes on Mondays and Tuesdays, while the other group will attend in-person classes on Thursdays and Fridays. For days they are not in the building, students will have online instruction. The district is working to bring K-6 students back to in-person classes five days a week. Depending on the state of the coronavirus, the district is preparing for all students to attend every day if that’s possible, students working entirely from home if they have to or the hybrid model mentioned above.
    • Safety precautions: Larger rooms in the elementary school will be repurposed.
  • Brookfield Local Schools
    • First day of school: Thursday, Aug. 27
    • Classes: Three possible options, depending on the state of the coronavirus. OPTION 1 “All-In” — District operates at full capacity, all of the students in the building five days a week. Extra-curriculars and sports will go on as scheduled. This is the goal. OPTION 2 “Hybrid Plan” — District operates at half student capacity. Students will be divided into two groups and will alternate which days they attend in-person classes or stay at home for online instruction. Families will be on the same schedule. Extra-curriculars and sports may be limited. OPTION 3 “Distance Learning” — All students will learn at home. Lessons will be online only and extra-curriculars and sports may be canceled. Lunches will be delivered or “grab and go” at the school. The plan is to have an all-online learning option available if a student is unable to attend in-person classes, regardless of what the district decides. Parents must let their child’s school principal know which option they’re going with starting Aug. 3. Whatever option you choose, it’s a commitment for at least a nine-week grading period.
    • Safety precautions: Temperatures will be checked upon arrival. When in the building, social distancing of three feet will be maintained whenever possible. Increased cleaning and sanitizing. There will be hand sanitizer on buses, at school entrances and throughout the buildings. Students will have assigned seats. Desks will be spaced apart and have barriers. Students will be responsible for wiping down their desks before changing classes. Breakfast and lunch will be eaten in the classrooms. Students showing symptoms will be sent to an isolation room and may be sent home.
  • Girard City Schools
    • First day of school: Tuesday, Sept. 8
    • Classes: All learning will be completely online. Students will have two options — get online instruction from Girard teachers five days a week via Google Classroom or get online instruction via Edgenuity, a third-party teaching company. Google Classroom is a nine-week commitment and Edgenuity is a one semester — two nine-week periods — commitment. Parents can fill out this survey by Wednesday, Aug. 19 to choose an option for their child.
  • Howland Local Schools
    • First day of school: Tuesday, Sept. 8
    • Classes: In-person if health conditions improve before the start of school. If not, there will be a hybrid learning model. Students would be divided into two groups — one group would attend school Mondays and Thursdays, with remote learning on Tuesdays and Fridays; the other group would attend school Tuesdays and Fridays, with remote learning Mondays and Thursdays. Wednesdays would be used for additional remote learning online, as well as teacher office hours and family engagement opportunities. The district is working to develop an independent online learning option for students who will not be able to return to in-person learning. If you have questions, you can submit them online.
  • Hubbard Schools
    • First day of school: Monday, Aug. 31
    • Classes: If social distancing guidelines and local/state conditions do not change, the school intends to use a hybrid learning model. This model will blend traditional face-to-face instruction and remote learning. In-person and remote instruction will reduce the number of students in the buildings. Students will be divided into two cohorts and attend school on campus on different days. During home days, students will work on remote assignments or tasks assigned during the in-person days. Families may choose the remote learning plan if they do not wish to send their students to school.
    • Safety precautions: Precautions include temperature checks, increased cleaning and one-way hallways, among other recommendations.
  • Lakeview Local School District
    • First day of school: Wednesday, Aug. 19
    • Classes: The plan is broken up into three phases: Green, Yellow and Red. Under red conditions, all learning would be at home. Yellow calls for 10% attendance — alternate days for students in 5th through 12th grade, half days and childcare for K through 4th grade. Green would be 100% of students attending. Online options are being offered. Families will have to commit to one semester in the online program and daily attendance will be taken. Deadlines for submission of coursework must be met consistently.
    • Safety precautions: If students are in the building, there will be hand sanitizing stations and frequent cleaning and disinfecting. Temperatures will be checked before everyone enters the building. There will be no visitors and students will not be allowed to gather in large groups. In hallways, people will be directed to walk one-way. The number of students in classrooms will be limited to maintain social distancing. All water fountains will be covered. There will be a designated “quarantine room.” There will be increased HVAC air filtering for better ventilation. Meals will be served in classrooms.
  • Liberty Local Schools
    • First day of school: Tuesday, Sept. 8
    • Classes: Parents have two options: Blended Learning and Remote Learning. Under the Blended Learning plan, students will attend school on campus and be assigned to one of two groups. The Maroon Group will attend Mondays and Tuesdays with remote learning on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The Gold Group will attend Thursday and Friday, with remote learning Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. The Remote Learning option is totally an online curriculum with virtual support and monitoring by certified staff. Remote Learning classes will be held every day Monday through Friday. Students may switch either option at the end of the quarter.
    • Safety Precautions: The school will be deep cleaned on Wednesday when both groups of students will not be there.
  • Maplewood Schools
    • First day of school: Monday, Aug. 24
    • Classes: The district is planning on a hybrid model, which will include face-to-face instruction as well as remote learning. Exact details will be released later.
    • Safety precautions: Personal hygiene, daily health assessments, environmental cleanliness and social distancing.
  • Mathews Local Schools
    • First day of school: Wednesday, Sept. 2 staggered start for grades 1-6 (half of the students come Sept. 2, the other half will come on Sept. 3). All students in grades 1-6 will come to school Friday, Sept. 4. Kindergarten students will also have a staggered start over three days beginning Sept. 2. High school students (grades 7-12) will all start Sept. 2.
    • Classes: Two possible options. The first is students in-person every day unless schools are required to close, in which case they would learn remotely via Google Classroom. The school district will function relative to pandemic condition levels as established by the state’s color-code public emergency system. If Trumbull County is Level 1 or 2, students will be in school and buses will transport. If it’s Level 3, students will be in school but buses will not transport. If it’s Level 4, students will learn remotely. The second option is students learn from home every day via Mustang Learning Academy (Educere). This option will be available for parents who don’t want to send their kids back to the classroom, regardless of what the district decides.
    • Safety precautions: Students’ temperatures will be taken at school and if it’s over 100 degrees F, they’ll be sent home. Desks will be set up to keep six feet of distance between students. Grades 1-6 will have breakfast and lunch in their classrooms and kindergartners will eat in a larger area where social distancing can be maintained. Students in grades 7-12 will have breakfast available and take a to-go lunch home when they leave school at 1. There will be no water fountains or lockers available until further notice. On buses, students will sit one per seat — unless they live together — and everyone is required to wear a mask. Shuttle buses are discontinued between Baker and Currie. Buses, classrooms, equipment, high-touch areas and common areas will be sanitized frequently. No visitors will be allowed in the buildings until further notice.

  • Newton Falls Exempted Village Schools
    • First day of school: Tuesday, Sept. 8
    • Classes: Parents have the option to either send students to the building for in-person classes or have them participate in remote learning at home via Google Classroom. If they choose to send their child to school, students in K-5 will go full-time, five days a week and students in grades 6-12 will be divided into two groups. Group A will be in-person Monday, Tuesday and every other Wednesday while Group B will be in-person Thursday, Friday and every other Wednesday. When they’re not in school, they’ll learn remotely from home. There is a revised bell schedule. At any time, parents will be able to switch to Option 2, complete remote learning, but they have to notify the school in writing. Switching from complete remote learning to in-person classes will only be permitted at the end of the grading period and parents must notify the school in writing. All students will get a Chromebook to use throughout the school year and those without internet access will be provided access. If schools are required to shut down or if Trumbull County is given a “purple” designation, all students will move to remote learning.

    • Safety precautions: Students will have their temperatures checked with thermal cameras when they get to school. The district is buying a cloth mask for all teachers and students. There will be hand sanitizer throughout the schools and cleaner in each classroom. The buildings will be deep-cleaned regularly. Students will be socially distanced six feet apart in classrooms and transition areas. The lunch room tables have been replaced with individual desks spaced six feet apart. Students with COVID-19 symptoms will be put in designated isolation rooms. All bus drivers and students on buses will be required to apply hand sanitizer when boarding the bus.   • Niles City Schools
    • First day of school: Monday, Aug. 31 (Tuesday, Sept. 8 for kindergarten)
    • Classes: Students will be divided into two groups. Group A will attend school Mondays and Wednesdays, while Group B will attend school Tuesdays and Thursdays. When students are not in school, they will have assignments to complete at home. Fridays will be for deep cleaning.
    • Safety precautions: Students will be kept six feet apart in classrooms. The average classroom can house 9-12 students under this requirement. Students will be required to sanitize their hands when they board the bus. Daily cleaning throughout the buildings.
      **If any family does not believe their child can begin on this blended learning model, please contact your child’s school building as soon as possible to discuss options for your child.
  • Southington Local Schools
    • First day of school: Monday, Aug. 31, for students in grades 6-12. Tuesday, September 1 for students in grades 1-5.
    • Classes: All day, every day in-person classes. The school day will be altered slightly. Online instruction will be available for students whose parents choose that for them.
    • Safety precautions: Temperatures will be taken when students arrive. More details will be released later.
  • Trumbull Career and Technical Center
    • First day of school: Junior students start Monday, Aug. 24 and senior students start Tuesday, Aug. 25
    • Classes: Half of TCTC’s student population will attend school each day. Junior (Level I) students will report Mondays and Wednesdays. Senior (Level II) students will report Tuesdays and Thursdays. Fridays will be alternated between the two groups and some Fridays will require all students to stay at home to be reserved for deep cleaning, teacher professional development, and individual student remediation and enrichment in a virtual setting. During in-person learning days, students will attend their program class for a little over four hours and one academic class for 90 minutes. On days students do not report to school, they will follow a virtual learning schedule and attend Google Meet sessions with their academic classes.
  • Warren City Schools
    • First day of school: Monday, Aug. 24
    • Classes: The district is starting the school year with a hybrid model in which students will attend class in-person some days and learn remotely other days. Parents were given an option to have their child participate in fully remote learning if they were more comfortable with that.
    • Safety precautions: Daily temperature-taking as students enter school each morning. The district plans on maintaining six feet of social distance between children to the best of its ability. There will be plexiglass dividers in some spaces. Teachers will rotate classrooms and students will stay put. Visitors will be limited. Frequent hand washing and sanitizing. The buildings and buses will be cleaned and disinfected regularly. Drinking fountains have been replaced with touchless water stations. All students will eat breakfast in the classroom. Students in kindergarten through 2nd grade and 9th through 12th grades will eat lunch in the classroom, and grades 3-8 will eat lunch in the cafeteria socially distanced.
  • Warren JFK Catholic Schools
    • First day of school: Aug. 17 for junior high; Aug. 18 for high school
    • Classes: In-person classes five days a week for all students in kindergarten through 12th grade.
    • Safety precautions: Reassignment of staff members to minimize class size to allow for social distancing and limited mixing of students; installation of plexiglass barriers wherever necessary and feasible as well as evaluating ventilation systems in each building; finalized policies for social distancing, face shields, assessing symptoms on a daily basis, and hand washing; investing in quality online programs for families who prefer their children not physically attend school, but wish to remain part of the Kennedy family; a signed contract with a professional cleaning service, that will disinfect and sanitize both campuses every 24 hours in addition to our Kennedy staff who will disinfect and sanitize during the school day. In the case of a local outbreak of COVID-19 cases, we will address the situation by implementing additional measures beyond ongoing precautions. Kennedy will follow any additional precautions set forth by the Ohio Department of Health and our local health department. These precautions may change frequently, and we will maintain frequent communication with both our families and our health department regarding those guidelines.
  • Weathersfield Local Schools
    • First day of school: Thursday, Sept. 3
    • Classes: In-person five days a week.
