COLUMBIANA, Ohio (WKBN) – The Restoration and Beautification Committee of Columbiana is turning an empty lot on South Main Street into a community green space.

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Wednesday for the new park, which is going to be called The Main Street Common. The Restoration and Beautification Committee raised $40,000 for the first phase of the project, including landscaping at the city-owned lot.

Mayor Bryan Blakeman said the green space is a perfect fit for the town.

“Columbiana is kind of known that in the evenings, people will wander the streets, come down strolling, take their dogs for a walk. We have the street fair,” he said. “I think this is just going to be a nice place for people to hang out. That’s why we named it The Common.”

There is still some work to be done. Benches will be put in, and they’re also painting a mural with the history of the town.
