GIRARD, Ohio (WKBN) — A wrong way crash this morning in Girard. Police say two cars collided head on off the Gypsy lane exit ramp to the 7-11 connector.

Police and paramedics rushed to the Gypsy Lane exit ramp off the 711 connector just after 11am. The driver of this black Nissan SUV began driving down the wrong side of the ramp and crashed head on into the tan Pontiac Sunfire.

Juan Fornore saw the whole thing unfold right in front of him.

“Basically it was a head on collision the tan Sunfire was slowing down trying to avoid the collision but it didn’t come out that way,” said Juan Fonore.

Luckily there were people passing by at the time of the accident, they sprung into action to help out.

Fornore tells me he set up cones to alert traffic about the accident until police could arrive.

“He was pretty messed up he was able to get out of the car there was a nurse that actually just turning onto the on ramp checked him out and everything but he was pretty banged up from the airbags,” said Fornore.

The driver of the car and two of the three people from the SUV were taken to the hospital. Girard police tell us this could have been a lot worse if the driver made it further down the ramp or onto the 711 connector. The driver is expected to be cited in the crash.
