100 balloons released in Mercer County for local fallen soldiers

MERCER, Pa. (WKBN) – For the fourth year in a row, the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts in Mercer County paid tribute to fallen heroes with a fitting tribute.

A First News viewer sent video of the tribute, just after 100 balloons were released. Each balloon had a tag showing the name of local soldier who died in service and the email for the Mercer VFW.  If anyone finds the balloon, they are asked to contact the VFW.

Last year, the Mercer VFW received six emails — one from as far away as Elk County, Pennsylvania.

The Ladies Auxiliary helped organize the event. They said they include soldiers from each war and conflict in the balloon release.
