YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – Services will be held Friday, April 28, 2019, at New Bethel Baptist Church in Youngstown at 11:00 a.m. for Wilma Mullens, 85, who transitioned into eternal rest Thursday morning, April 18, 2019 at Guardian Health Care Nursing Home after an extended illness.
Wilma was born March 11, 1934 in Youngstown, a daughter of Levester and Wilhelmina Adger.
She was a 1952 graduate of The Rayen School.
After graduation, Wilma immediately joined the workforce at Southside Hospital working as a nurse’s aide. Wilma continued her career working for Youngstown Public Schools managing the cafeteria program for multiple schools over 20 years retiring in 1995.
Wilma was one of the founding members of the Creme de la Creme, was a member of The New Bethel Baptist Church where she participated with the usher ministry, along with managing the clothing drive responsibilities. Wilma also belonged to The Red Hats Society.
Wilma was definitely the life of any party, loved life to its fullest. She enjoyed cooking, spending time with family and traveling with “The Cremes”.
After a long courtship with Arnett Mullens, they were married in 1953 in Youngstown and remained married until his death in 1998.
Wilma is survived her son, Oscar (Pattie) Mullens of Hillsboro, Oregon; her sister, Nadine Parker (late Melvin) of Atlanta, Georgia; her brother-in-law, Sidney (Jeanette) Moore of Beaverton, Oregon; Thelma Brown of Youngstown; her granddaughter, who would be the love of her life, Taylor Mullens of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; extended family, Ella Tubs-Moody and Mary Williamson, both of Youngstown and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arnett Mullens; daughter, Tiffany Mullens and two brothers, William and Henderson Adger.
Viewing will be one hour prior to the service, 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 28 at the church.
Interment services will be held at Belmont Park Cemetery immediately following the funeral.

A television tribute will air Wednesday, April 24 at the following approximate times: 12:25 p.m. WKBN, 6:58 p.m. on MyYTV and 10:37 p.m. FOX plus two additional spots throughout the day.
