Vernon Jenkins, of Sharon, passed away on Sunday, September 2, 2018, in VA Medical Center, Pittsburgh, after an extended illness. He was 74.

On June 18, 1944, Vernon was born in Baltimore, Maryland to Azalea Jenkins and Mack Stewart. 

Mr. Jenkins worked at Halm Industries, Inc. in Glen Head, New York as a draftsman for 32 years. He also was a self-taught electrician and owner/operator of VJ Electrical Services. 

Mr. Jenkins was drafted into the U.S. Army at the age of 19 and was a decorated Vietnam War veteran. 

Vernon was trustee of the Farrell VFW, member of the Frontiers Club and president of the NAACP chapter in Glen Cove, New York.

In addition, he was a member of Valley Baptist Church, Farrell.

Vernon enjoyed golfing and cycling.

He married Deborah Bradley Jenkins on July 28, 1984. She survives at home. Other survivors include daughters, Pamela Jenkins, Atlanta, Georgia and Daishauna Jenkins, Sharon; a son, Gregory Jenkins and wife, Yolanda, Atlanta, Georgia; a sister, Renee Jenkins, New York and four grandchildren. 

Vernon was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Lonny and Barry Jenkins.

Friends and family will be received at the home of Vickie Lee, 27 Pebble Lane, Transfer, Pennsylvania.

Calling hours will be 9:00 a.m. until service time Saturday, September 8 in Valley Baptist Church, 500 Sharon-New Castle Road, Farrell.

Funeral will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 8 following calling hours in the church, with the Rev. Terry Harrison officiating. 

Burial will be in America’s Cemetery. 

Arrangements are by John Flynn Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2630 E. State St., Hermitage.

A television tribute will air Thursday, September 6 at the following approximate times: 12:25 p.m. WKBN, 6:58 p.m. on MyYTV and 10:37 p.m. FOX plus two additional spots throughout the day.
