HOWLAND, Ohio – Charles H. Norchi, Jr., M.D. passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio.
Dr. Norchi was born on July 31, 1925 in the Bronx, New York the son of the late Charles H. and Alacoque Norchi.
Dr. Norchi practiced as an anesthesiologist at St. Joseph’s Health Center for over 30 years.
He enlisted in the Navy in 1943 and then joined the 3rd Amphibious Corps of the United States Marines, serving in the Pacific Theatre of the Second World War until 1946. Dr. Norchi saw action in the amphibious and ground battles for Okinawa and subsequently served in the US Fleet hospital at Isahaya, Japan treating survivors of the atomic bombing of Nagasaki. For his war service he was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Medal with one star, the American Campaign Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, and Navy Presidential Unit Citation.
Following his war service, Dr. Norchi graduated from Manhattan College in New York City and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of the National University of Ireland in Dublin.
He was a long-standing parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Church in Warren, an avid athlete who played tennis, golf and baseball, and also enjoyed playing the accordion and became an accomplished wood carver.
He leaves Breda, his wife of sixty-two years, and four children, Charles of Portland, Maine, Kevin (Meg) of Bentleyville, Ohio, Patricia of New York City, and Terrence (Heidi) of Natick, Massachusetts and seven grandchildren, Kevin, Kathleen, Ryan, Amanda, Victoria, Olivia and Alexander.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother William Norchi.
Family and friends may call Friday from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church in Warren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the Church with Rev. Thomas J. McCarthy officiating.
