NEW CASTLE, PA (MyValleyTributes) – Ruth “Pansy” Rankin, 92, of New Castle, passed away peacefully Friday morning, April 5, 2019, in Quality of Life Services.
Mrs. Rankin was born September 3, 1926, in New Castle, a daughter of the late Earl C. and Hazel (Allen) Brown.
Ruth retired in 1990 from the former New Castle Youth Developmental Center, where she worked as a house parent for 20 years.
Her devoted husband, Torrence Rankin, whom she fell in love with in 1956 and later married on April 20, 1963, survives at home.
Ruth was a member of St. Luke AME Zion Church, New Castle.
An exceptional cook, she loved hosting large family gatherings and entertaining guests. Ruth also enjoyed decorating her home with flowers for any and all occasions. Her entire life was dedicated to caring for the family and her greatest joy came from spending time with all of them; especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Ruth is survived by two daughters, Charlene Rankin and Sarita Rankin; four sons, Jodie Warden, Clarence (Carol) Warden, Darrell Warden and Jeffrey Rankin; a sister, Vera Brown, all of New Castle; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren; a beloved nephew, Reverend Bryan Crawl and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Besides her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Robinson and Hazel Doster; a stepsister, Shirley Wynn and a brother, James Ellarbee.
Calling hours will be 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 Noon, Friday, April 12, 2019, in Second Baptist Church, 537 Bell Avenue, New Castle, Pennsylvania.
A Home Going Celebration will be held at 12:00 Noon, Friday, April 12, in the church, with Reverend Bryan Crawl, officiating.
Interment will follow in Graceland Cemetery, Neshannock Township.
