Robert R. Silverthorn, 94, of Milford, Pennsylvania, formerly of Sharon, Pennsylvania and Howland, Ohio, passed away Monday morning, April 1, 2019, in Geisinger South, Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.
Mr. Silverthorn was born June 1, 1924, in Girard, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Roa Columbo and Louise (Baxe) Silverthorn.
He attended Rice Avenue Union High School in Girard.
He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII where he was stationed in Ireland guarding ammunition.
Following his discharge, Robert was employed by the former Erie Lackawanna Railroad, Sharon, where he worked as a rate clerk until he retiring in the 1990’s.
A man of strong faith, Robert was a member of East Side Church, Baptist-Disciples of Christ, Sharon.
He enjoyed gardening and growing tomatoes in his backyard.
His wife, the former Alice Mazrick, whom he married December 12, 1947, passed away February 21, 2003.
He is survived by a daughter, Ellen Moscaritolo and her husband, Dan, of Milford, Pennsylvania; a son, Charles Silverthorn and his wife, Michael Anne, of Salineville, Ohio; four grandchildren, Ethan Silverthorn, Elissa (Christopher) Wilson, Crystal (James) Bradley and Cheryl Anne Oliver and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Robert was preceded in death by two sisters, Florence Rice and Virginia Jackson and a brother, Clarence Silverthorn.
The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to East Side Church, Baptist-Disciples of Christ, 201 Spruce Avenue, Sharon, PA 16146.
Calling hours will be 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 Noon, Thursday, April 4, in East Side Church, Baptist-Disciples of Christ, Sharon.
Funeral service will follow visitation at 12:00 Noon, Thursday, April 4, in the church with Rev. Craig Thompson, pastor, officiating.
Interment will be in Crown Hill Burial Park, Vienna, Ohio.
