Robert Leo Niessner, age 88, passed away Friday, January 4, 2019 at Hospice House.
Robert was born January 21, 1930 in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania to the late Leo and Violet Niessner.
He was a graduate of Westview High School class of 1948.
He resided in Fowler since 1959.
Bob has been a faithful member of St. Robert’s Catholic Church since moving to the area.
After high school and during the Korean War, Bob joined the U.S. Army where he learned the electrical trade.
After his discharge from the Army, he and his new bride traveled the country while Bob worked on Radar Towers. Bob had a brilliant mind for electronics and could build or create almost anything.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and helping everyone with household projects.
He retired from Commercial Intertech in 1992 as an industrial electrician.
Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Jean Kelly (Niessner) and a daughter, Mary Jane Niessner.
He will be forever missed by his wife of 64 years, the former Valeria M. Yancha, who he married June 26, 1954. He also leaves his five children, Deborah Saddler of Hartford, Linda Lopuchovsky of Hubbard, Robert Niesser of Marysville, California, David (Melissa) Niessner of Mesa, Arizona and Daryl (Paula) Niessner of Vienna and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Friends may call 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 14, 2019 at St. Robert’s Catholic Church, 4659 St. Rt. 46 in Cortland, where Rev. Fr. Carl Kish will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m.
