YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Mrs. Phibbie Underwood, 77, entered eternal rest Tuesday, January 30, 2018, at the Ohio Valley Hospital.
Phibbie was born June 24, 1940, in Autaugaville, Alabama, to Willie, Sr. and Phibbie Bishop Williams. At the age of 9, her mom brought her and her brother, Willie II, to Youngstown.
She was educated in the Youngstown City Schools and graduated from East High School in 1957.
She was employed by Metal Carbides Corporation for over 26 years as a lead machine operator, retiring in 1995.
She was a former member of the Jerusalem Baptist Church which she joined in 1951. She enjoyed singing and was a member of the senior choir as well as the culinary department.
She was also a member of the NAACP.
Hobbies that she enjoyed included knitting, crocheting, cooking and baking. She was crowned the crossword puzzle and word search champion of the family.
Phibbie was a loving and devoted mother to her only child, Darcy Angelique. Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with Darcy and the family. She was affectionately called “Aunt Bay” by all of her nieces and nephews and was an extension of motherhood to them as well. She always provided words of encouragement and guidance no matter the circumstance. “I’m proud of you” and “Aunt Bay loves you”, were the words that ended almost every conversation.
She leaves to cherish her memory and continue her legacy of love, her daughter, Darcy; two nieces, Karyn Scott (Craig) and Karla Randall; one nephew, Willie Williams III; three great-nieces, Kyona Hooker (Kerri), Khia Chukudebelu (Chuk) and Kierra Williams; seven great-nephews, Kevin Moses, Jr., Lance Randall, Kyle Randall, Daylen Williams, Craig Randall, BJ Williams and Ryan Clark; two great-great-nephews, Jaylen Chukudebelu and Cameron Chukudebelu; a great-great-niece, Kaydence Moses and a host of family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Willie Williams II and sister, Mary Long.
Friends may call Saturday, February 3, 2018, from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. at the Beulah Baptist Church in Youngstown
Funeral services will follow immediately at 10:00 a.m. at the church.
