HERMITAGE, PA (MyValleyTributes) - Norman O. Lombardo, of Hermitage, passed away at 1:15 p.m. Friday, November 9, 2018, in Nugent CCRC, Hermitage. He was 94.
Mr. Lombardo was born September 29, 1924, in Farrell, a son of the late Joseph and Susan (Romondi) Lombardo.
A lifelong area resident, he was a 1942 graduate of Farrell High School.
Norman joined the U.S. Merchant Marines in 1943 and was part of the Murmansk Russia 102 ship supply convoy. Seaman Lombardo was in one of the 35 ships that survived enemy attacks and was in what became known as the coffin convoy.
Norman retired in 1974 from the former Sawhill Tubular Products, Wheatland, where he was a millwright for more than 32 years.
He was an active member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Farrell and its Holy Name Society and Bethany Club.
He enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and model ship building and loved to watch western movies.
Norman is survived by his wife of 73 years, the former, Angeline Marie Reda, whom he married November 17, 1945; a daughter, Donna Dekanich and her husband, Anthony, of Hermitage; a son, David Lombardo and his wife, Patrice, of Ross Township, Allegheny County; two sisters, Rose Latsko, of Farrell and Mary Manilla, of Hermitage and a brother, William Lombardo, also of Hermitage. He was also blessed with nine grandchildren, Valorie (Steve) Dunch, Elisa Kashmer, Aaron (Yvette) Kashmer, Marc (Sara) Kashmer, Dana Lombardo, Natalie Lombardo, Nicholas Lombardo, Patrick (Katie) Velliky and Timothy Velliky; eight great-grandchildren, Jillie, Marcus, Oliver, Ellah, Alivia, Marisa, Marc and Alex and a brother-in-law, Pat Mastrian, of Hermitage.
Besides his parents, Norman was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan J. Lombardo; a brother, Albert “Cookie” Lombardo and a sister, Josephine Mastrian.
The family would like to thank the following for their thoughtfulness and kindness to their dad over the years, “his girls” at Hermitage Giant Eagle Pharmacy, Dr. Robert Cicuto and his office staff, Justina Boatwright of Huntington Bank and the staff at Garden Way and Nugent CCRC.

Calling hours will be from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. Monday, November 12, 2018, in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 East State Street, Sharon.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 13 in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Farrell, with Rev. Matthew Ruyechan, pastor, as celebrant.
Military honors will be rendered by the West Middlesex VFW, Wheatland American Legion and Farrell VFW honor guard immediately following the Mass.
Interment will be held at St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Hermitage.
