Marilyn Rose Sham, formerly of Sharon, passed away peacefully at 11:53 a.m. Tuesday, January 8, 2019, in St. John XXIII Home, Hermitage, where she has been a resident for more than two years. She was 89.
Mrs. Sham was born August 15, 1929, in Sharon, a daughter of the late Richard and Gertrude (Copenhaver) Kelly.
She attended the former St. Joseph Parochial Grade School, Sharon and was a 1947 graduate of Sharon High School.
Marilyn was a devout Catholic and lifetime member of St. Joseph Church, Sharon.
Her husband of 68 years, Leo J. Sham, whom she married May 28, 1949, passed away January 10, 2018.
An exceptional homemaker, Marilyn enjoyed baking and cooking and looked forward to preparing Sunday meals. She cherished her family and loved spending time with them, particularly on Sundays and during the Christmas season. She was a staunch Sharon High Tiger football fan and donated her time as a volunteer for Meals-On-Wheels and as a poll worker on Election Day.
Surviving are a son, William L. Sham and his wife, Jane, of Sharon; two daughters, Vickie L. O’Hara and Kelly M. Rudge and her husband, Frank, all of Hermitage; six grandchildren, Ashley Sham, Lee Sham and his wife Kamala, Morgan Rudge, Jared Rudge, Neal O’Hara and Marilyn Evans and her husband, Greg and two great-grandchildren, Madison and Connor.
Besides her parents and husband, Marilyn was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold, William and Richard Kelly and three sisters, Grace Kelly, Dorothy Curtin and Mildred Kaelin.
The family would like to thank a special great-niece, Tracey Mechling and the staff of St. John XXIII Home for their kindness and exceptional care.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be directed toward St. John XXIII Home, 2250 Shenango Valley Freeway, Hermitage, PA 16148.
Calling hour will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service, 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 11, 2019, in the Roncalli Center of St. John XXIII Home, Hermitage.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, in the Roncalli Center of St. John XXIII Home, with Rev. Thomas Whitman, pastor of St. Joseph Church, Sharon, as celebrant.
Interment will be in St. Rose Cemetery, Hermitage.
