NORTH LIMA, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – Maria Kordupel, 95, formerly of Humbolt Avenue in Youngstown, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, April 2, 2019, at Caprice Health Care after a long and fulfilling life.
Maria was born September 27, 1923, in Poland, Europe, a daughter of the late Iwan and Olha Makaryszyn and came to America and Youngstown in 1950.
Mrs. Kordupel was a beloved wife, mother and homemaker who dedicated her life to raising and caring for her family. Maria loved and embraced her Ukrainian heritage, cooking and baking many favorite Ukrainian dishes and listening to Ukrainian music. She loved gardening and planting flowers and she enjoyed treating her family by cooking throughout the summer with fresh items she grew in her garden. Maria took over the leadership role of her family in 1977 after her husband became ill, tirelessly providing and caring for him during his illness and she continued to care for her six sons throughout her life.
She was a member of Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church in Youngstown, where she belonged to the St. Anne Guild and was a volunteer making and selling pyrohy and kolachi for the church.
Maria leaves to cherish her memory five sons, Stefan Kordupel, Peter Kordupel, Jr., Michael Kordupel, John (Carol) Kordupel and Joseph (Judi) Kordupel and four grandchildren, Michelle, Kelly, Bryan and Joey.
Maria’s husband, Peter Kordupel, whom she married in 1940, passed away in 1977. An infant daughter, Mary and a son, Frank Kordupel, are also deceased.
Private services were held on Monday, April 8, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown.
Interment took place at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown, where Maria was laid to rest next to her husband.
Maria’s family thanks the staff and caregivers of Caprice Health Care Center for the kindness shown and loving care provided during her final years.
