SALEM, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) - The family of Marcia Ann (Gregg) Chapman, age 81, is sad to announce her passing after complications of a heart ailment at 5:09 p.m. Monday, October 15, 2018 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Youngstown.
She was born July 11, 1937 in Salem, the daughter of the late Ewing P. and Averil (Campbell) Gregg.
Marcia was a 1955 graduate of Goshen High School.
She worked as a secretary at Hunt Valve, then Salem Republic Rubber and retired as a rural mail carrier from the U.S. Postal Service in Salem after 15 years.
Marcia surrounded herself with friends and family and her house was the center of family gatherings for Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter and for everything else in between. Everyone was welcome, whether related or not. There was always laughter and great food.
Lifelong friends included people she knew from elementary school and she continued to make new friends throughout her life. Many of those friends will remember Marcia for her caring and funny gifts. She loved genealogy and was the historian for both her own and Wilbert’s families. Cake baking and decorating; as well as quilting were also one of her many talents.
Faith was important to Marcia and she was a long-time member of the First Friends Church in Salem. Her church family knew her as a leader, as a giving person and as a tireless worker, always ready to help. She will be remembered for her generosity with time, talent and resources.
Her husband, Wilbert R. Chapman, whom she married June 8, 1957, preceded her in death July 30, 2009 after their marriage of 52 years. A stepson, Robert Shive also preceded her in 2003.
Survivors include three sisters, Helen Gregg Huffman of North Benton, Susan Gregg of Hanoverton and Barbara Gregg Brandan of Salem and a cousin, Rick Gregg of Canton. She is also survived by eight nieces and nephews, James Monath, Daniel Robbins, Brenda Robbins Coleman, Linda Robbins, David Huffman, Jamie Less Kukunis, Dawn Less Baker and Chad Less; many great and great-great-nieces and nephews and three stepgrandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Stark Memorial Funeral Home with Pastor Pete Fowler officiating.
Calling hours will be held Saturday, October 20, 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.
Burial will be held at Bunker Hill Cemetery, Beloit, Ohio at a later date.
