YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – Thomas R. Reed, 73, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 6, 2019, at St. Elizabeth Hospital.
Tom was born on June 22, 1945, in Miola, Pennsylvania, to Howard Reed and Kathryn (McClearly) Beck.
After graduating from East High School, Tom joined the United States Army, earning the rank of sergeant. He received a Purple Heart for injuries incurred during the Vietnam War.
After his honorable discharge, Tom worked for Youngstown Steel Door and Wean Industries. However, he spent his career working for the United States Postal Service, retiring in 2007 as a mail carrier.
Tom loved baseball and often talked about his years playing Class A ball for the Buckeye Elks. He was an avid golfer with two holes-in-one and was known as “Radar” by his golfing buddies.
Tom was adored by all who met him, was generous and always put everyone else before himself.
He will be missed by all but especially by his wife of 52 years, Sandra Santillo Reed; his children, Thomas Reed and Amanda (Michael) Cummings; his grandchildren, Taylor, Morgan and Olivia Reed and Carina, Joshua and Sean Cummings; his brothers, Edgar (Peg) Reed and Richard (Cindy) Beck; his sisters, Martha “Sis” (Dan) White, Linda (Dave) Burham and Kathy (Rod) Wells; his sister-in-law, Rita Reed; as well as, many other relatives.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Jack Beck, who raised him and his brothers, Joe Reed and Steve (Monica) Reed.
A memorial service with military honors will be held on Monday, April 29, 2019, at 1:00 p.m., at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Road, Seville, OH 44273.
A special thank you to the firemen at Youngstown Station Number 15; as well as, all the doctors and nurses at St. Elizabeth Hospital, that tried so desperately to save him.
