Donald “Donnie” L. Smail, 62, of Austintown, passed away on Friday, March 8, 2019, surrounded by his family, at St. Elizabeth’s in Youngstown.
Donnie was born May 20, 1956, in Kenmore, New York, the son of the late Donald E. and Ruth Ann (Boyer) Smail.
Donnie was a 1974 graduate of Chaney High School, where he played football. Donnie earned his journeyman machinist and tool & die certification from Mahoning County Joint Vocational School.
Prior to his retirement, he worked as a machinist for over 40 years.
Donnie loved the outdoors and spent much of his time camping, fishing, watching his children participate in sports and playing with his grandchildren. He loved traveling and spending time with his family.
Donnie is survived by his wife, Phyllis (Pogany) Smail, whom he married September 22, 1979; his children, Heather McMasters of Austintown, Matthew (Renee) Smail of Canfield and Joshua (Ashley) Smail of Austintown; his siblings, Steve (Yvonne) Smail of New Mexico, Michael (Steven Preston) of Michigan and Lisa (Jerry) Little of Austintown; his grandchildren, Jacob, Nora, Colt, Liam, Brynlee, Grant and his four granddogs. He was a very proud Papa.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, March 12 from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Lane Family Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel.
A funeral service will be held immediately following visitation at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 12.
