Joseph “Smokin Joe” Thomas Gabrovsek, 66, of Orwell, Ohio, passed unexpectedly on Friday, November 9, 2018 at St. Joseph Warren Hospital.

He was born May 3, 1952 in Warren, Ohio, a son of the late Anthony T. and Rosemary (Zupec) Gabrovsek.

On June 25, 2004 he married Pamela J. Urmson.

“Smokin Joe” was an independent truck driver for over 40 years.

Joseph loved riding his Harley and drag racing. He owned a drag car he would race himself. Joe was a self appointed neighborhood watchmen and could be found riding his golf cart up and down the street keeping a lookout. 

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 14 years, Pamela J. Gabrovsek; sons, Joseph R. (Crystal) Gabrovsek of Orwell, Ohio and Stephen M. (Mallory) Gabrovsek of Newton Falls, Ohio; daughters, Catherine R Gabrovsek of North Bloomfield, Ohio, Kimberly (Marty) Gilmore of Warren, Ohio and Kelly Olson of Bristol, Ohio; son, Joel (Heather) Halstead of Champion, Ohio; daughter, Jennifer (Lora Lewis) Halstead of North Bloomfield, Ohio; sons, Justin (Amanda) Halstead of Fowler, Ohio and James “Jim” Olson of Champion, Ohio; brother, Thomas “Tom” (Ruth) Gabrovsek of Vienna, Ohio; brother-in-law, John Duff; sister-in-law, Carolyn K. Gabrovsek; 14 grandchildren with one on the way and four great-grandchildren. He will also be missed by his best friends, Ron, Dano and Brad.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Rosalia Duff and brother, Jack Gabrovsek.

A memorial gathering for his friends and family will take place at Carl W. Hall Funeral Home on Friday, November 16, 2018 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.

A television tribute will air Wednesday, November 14 at the following approximate times: 6:41 a.m. WYTV and 8:41 a.m. MyYTV and 9:58 a.m. on FOX plus two additional spots throughout the day.
