Joseph P. Kapusta, 73, of Hermitage passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, August 25, 2018, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Mr. Kapusta was born April 16, 1945, in Sharon, a son of Joseph J. and Mildred (Noga) Kapusta.
He was a 1963 graduate of Hickory High School and earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism from Penn State main campus in 1967.
Joe was employed as an editor of the Herald newspaper for over 30 years. During that time he won several awards, including the C.B. Lartz award for outstanding editing and news writing.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Hermitage.
An avid sports fan, Joe enjoyed going to games and watching Penn State and the Cleveland Browns and Indians. He also enjoyed collecting stamps and coins and spending time with his family. Joe was among the first customers to have a beer at Quaker Steak and Lube in Sharon.
He is survived by his wife, the former Sharon Leigh Tron, whom he married on November 19, 1988; a son, Joseph Kapusta, Jr., Hermitage; a stepdaughter, Courtney (Mike) Renner, Farrell; a stepson, Vince (Kelli) Trenga, Meadville; four grandchildren, Gabby and Izzy Renner and Santino and Blaine Trenga; two brothers, William (Cindy) Kapusta of Hermitage and Gary (Lauri) Kapusta of Atlanta, Georgia; a Godson, Jason (Molly) Kapusta and many nieces and nephews.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Donald Edward Kapusta.
Calling hours will be 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 29 in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 East State Street, Sharon.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 30 in the funeral home with Rev. Gary Nelson, pastor of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Hermitage, officiating.
Interment will be in Holy Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Hermitage.
A television tribute will air Wednesday, August 29 at the following approximate times: 6:41 a.m. WYTV and 8:41 a.m. MyYTV and 9:58 a.m. on FOX plus two additional spots throughout the day.
