YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – A homegoing celebration in honor of Mr. Johnny James Jones will be held Monday, April 22 at 11:00 a.m. at Greater Friendship Baptist Church in Youngstown, Ohio.
Mr. Jones was lovingly called “Bill” and was loved by many.
Johnny was born March 31, 1938 to his beloved parents, the late Arthur Jones and JRusha Hart Jones in Troy, Alabama.
He heard God’s whisper and journeyed home on Monday, April 15, 2019.
His baptism took place at an early age in Troy, Alabama at the Holly Springs Missionary Baptist Church. He relocated to Youngstown, Ohio, where he joined Greater Friendship Baptist Church. Later, he found his way to Mt. Gilead Baptist Church where he was a faithful member in their male chorus, until his health declined.
When Johnny ventured to Ohio, he was employed by U.S. Steel for numerous years.
He was also gifted in the use of his hands; he worked on many types of vehicles as a mechanic for family, friends and neighbors. He could be found helping strangers along the way. In his younger days “Bill” enjoyed playing Bizwiz and other card games at Fran’s Hilltop. In his later years, he adored his “card playing brother and sisters” as they gathered at each of their homes. McDonalds and Burger King became two of his socializing spots. A lot of laughter could be heard for miles around. Through his humble attitude and actions many people knew him and felt his strong will. He was lovable, caring, funny, witty and all about family. His joy could be seen when he was with his wife, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 81 years of expressed love.
He will forever be loved and missed by his faithful wife, of over 50 years, Mrs. Johnnie Pearl Jones; his children, Linda Barrow Harris of Columbus Georgia, Rushia Jones and Mary Ann Flowers, of Troy, Alabama, Johnny (Terri) Jones of Hartselle, Alabama; Annette (Willie) Toney of Troy, Alabama,Jarvis (Marva) Jones, Sr. and Angel Jones of Youngstown, Ohio and Steven Jones of Atlanta, Georgia; his 21 grandchildren; his 35 great-grandchildren; one brother, James Arthur Jones of Valdosta, Georgia; four sisters, Plaze M. Hill and Mary Rome of Cleveland, Ohio, Annie Kelly and Johnnie Mae White of Valdosta, Georgia; sisters-in-law, Lucy Pearl Ford, Almetha Green, Georgie Minick and Mary Ashley; brother-in-law, Eddie Lee Ashley and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends; special friends, his card playing brothers and sisters.
Johnny was preceded in death by his parents; his four brothers, Arthur “Red” Jones, Sr., William “Bubba” Jones, Thomas Jones and Jimmy “Lee” Jones; three sisters, Wease Mae Robinson, Mary Sherman and JRushia Jones.
The family will receive friends Monday, April 22 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the church prior to the service.
Interment will be in Tod Homestead Cemetery.
