John P. Genovesi Obituary

Greenville, Pennsylvania - January 18, 2019

GREENVILLE, PA (MyValleyTributes) - John P. Genovesi, 91, of Templeton Avenue, Hempfield Township, Greenville, passed away Friday morning, January 18, 2019.

He was born in Greenville on December 7, 1927, to Pasquale and Giacomina (Bragaglia) Genovesi.

John was a 1945 graduate of Penn High School, served in the United States Navy from 1945-1947 and received his Bachelor of Science in Physics from Edinboro State College.

He was employed as an electrician at Westinghouse Electric Corporation for 35 years, retiring in 1982. From 1982-2005, he was the owner/operator of John The Baptist Computer and CB Radio Sales, where during the 1980s, he would actually build the whole computer from scratch.

John was an active member of St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, Greenville and had served as a Eucharistic Minister, CCD teacher, was active with the annual car raffle and as an accomplished carpenter, he made all the Altar furniture for the church during the 1970s.

John was a fourth-degree member of Knights of Columbus Fitzmartin Council #1446 and was a lifetime member and past president of the Greenville Italian Home Club.

He was a HAM radio operator for many years, was an avid Cleveland sports fan and his favorite past time was cooking spaghetti and sauce for friends and family.

On May 1, 1954, he married the former Geraldine Catalano, she passed away on May 22, 2018.

Survivors include three sons, Samuel P. Genovesi and his wife, Melissa, of Greenville, John A. Genovesi and his wife, Lynn and Matthew M. Genovesi and his wife, Cara, all of Austin, Texas; ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a son, Michael Genovesi; a brother and four sisters.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, 85 North High Street, Greenville, PA 16125.

A memorial Mass of Christian burial will be Friday, January 25, 2019, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, 85 North High Street, Greenville, PA 16125.

Greenville VFW Post #3374 will render military honors at the conclusion of the service.

The family will receive friends in the gathering space of the church immediately following the mass.

The family invites all in attendance to a luncheon at the Knights of Columbus.

Inurnment will be private in St. Michael Cemetery.
