SHARON, Pennsylvania (MyValleyTributes) – George O. McMillan, Sr., 96, of Sharon, died due to natural causes at 7:56 p.m. Sunday, August 15, 2021, in UPMC Farrell.
He was born to August 1, 1925, in Red Springs, North Carolina, to Nanna Bell Taylor and Daniel K. McMillan, both deceased.
He graduated from Red Spring High School and retired from Wheatland Tube, where he worked in several departments for 44 years until he retired in 1984.
He was a member of Ruth A.M.E. Zion Church and Home Church Panthers Ford Presbyterian Church, North Carolina.
He was a veteran of World War II and served in Germany, France, Belgium and the Austrian border.
He was a member of the VFW and Elks and enjoyed bowling, baseball and fishing.
He is survived by his daughters, Gwnedolyn Herron of Farrell and Taliesha Gunther of Sharpsville; sons, Philip McNeill of Alexandria, Virginia, George McMillan, Jr. of Sharon and Billie McMillan of Red Springs, North Carolina; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ela (Stanley) McMillan, whom he married May of 1948 and she passed away July 13, 2010; six sisters, Rosie McMillan, Catherine Markoe, Lucy McMillan, Allie Buie, Helyn Galbreath and Edna McCray and three brothers, John Henry McMillan, Harold McMillan and Dan Hector McMillan.
Memorial service will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 20 in Ruth A.M.E. Zion Church, 95 W. Connelly Blvd., Sharon.
Burial will be in Panthers Ford Presbyterian Cemetery, Red Springs, North Carolina.
