HERMITAGE, Pennsylvania (MyValleyTributes) – Virginia Spon, 74, of Hermitage, passed away on Sunday, September 11, 2022, in UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh.
Mrs. Spon was born July 28, 1948, in Sharon, a daughter of Guy and Janet (Maiure) Zupo, Sr.
She was a 1966 graduate of Farrell High School and studied for two years with the Benedictine Sisters of Erie, at Mercyhurst College.
Gini began her career in the mail room and eventually invoicing department at Sharon Steel’s former Farrell plant, where she met her husband. Later, she worked for the former Ivor J. Lee in Sharon, Clark (Pennsylvania) Trinity United Methodist Church, the former Book Rack in Sharon and most recently retired from Disability Options Network in New Castle, Pennsylvania.
An avid reader, she also enjoyed crocheting, especially hats and was extremely gifted in making ceramics. She looked forward to showcasing and selling her crafts at local shows. Above all, Gini cherished the time she was able to spend with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, George Spon, whom she married May 30, 1970; her mother, Janet Zupo, Aliquippa, Pennsylvania; a son, Gregory Spon and his wife, Alyson, of Nashville, Tennessee; a daughter, Gina Girt of Sharpsville; four grandchildren, Mordecai and Silas Girt and Roman and Luca Spon; two sisters, Jackie McFarland and her husband, Mike, of Auburn, Georgia and Lisa Comer and her husband, Mark, Elkton, Virginia and two brothers, Ralph Zupo of Salineville, Ohio and Guy Zupo, Jr. of Aliquippa.
Gini was preceded in death by her father and a brother, John Zupo.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be directed to the American Heart Association, at www.Heart.org.
Calling hours will be 5:30 – 7:00 p.m., until the time of the service, Thursday, September 15, 2022 in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 East State Street, Sharon, where funeral services will begin at 7:00 p.m.
