MASURY, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – Anthony “Tony” Carpenter, 96, of Masury, Ohio, passed away peacefully Friday morning, September 9, 2022, in the Lakes at Jefferson.

Mr. Carpenter was born October 13, 1925, in Washington, Pennsylvania, a son of Berardino and Dalia “Della” (Giancola) Carpente.

After moving to Masury as a young boy, he later graduated from Brookfield High School in 1944.

For 42 years, Tony was employed by the former Sharon Transformer Division of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation, where he began as a fitter and worked his way to a group leader, retiring in 1983. He also worked part-time for the Sharon Herald in the print room. During retirement, Tony drove the Brookfield Township Senior Citizen Van for 20 years.

Tony was a member of St. Joseph Church, Sharon and formerly a longtime member of Church of the Sacred Heart, where he served as an Usher for 55 years and participated on the church’s bowling team. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 1417 of Masury, Ohio.

Tony enjoyed participating in the Westinghouse Retirees bocce league, as well as, The New Deal Club’s duck-pin bowling league. He had a lifelong passion for vegetable gardening and nice cars.

His beloved wife of 65 years, Olga (Santuomo) Carpenter, whom he married September 25, 1954, preceded him in death January 12, 2020.

Tony is survived by two daughters, Lisa Carpenter Wyse of Hermitage and Gina Carpenter (Terry Collins) of Merritt Island, Florida; a sister, Janice Economides (George) of Masury, Ohio; a grandson, Zachary Collins and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Tony was preceded in death by three brothers, Rudy Carpenter, John Carpenter and an infant brother.

Calling hours will be 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 13, 2022 in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E State St., Sharon.
