George L. Ginther, age 87, of Sharon, Pennsylvania, passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2019, at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio.
Born December 7, 1931, in Rochester, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late, Lawrence and Ella Mae Boggs Ginther.
He married the former, Catherine Porterfield on July 18, 1953 and she preceded him in death in 2013.
George served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a Corporal and received several medals and citations including a Bronze Star, a Purple Heart Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster and a Korean Service Medal with five Bronze Stars.
George returned home from Korea and went to work for Wheatland Tube as a craneman for 41 years before his retirement.
He was a member of the Shenango Valley V.F.W. #1338 and the Sharon American Legion Post #299.
His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by a daughter, Lisa and her husband, Dave Ferencik, of Sharon, Pennsylvania and a son, James and his wife, Patty, of West Middlesex, Pennsylvania; four grandchildren, Nawney (Dave) McGranahan, Benjamin (Melissa) Ferenak, Sydney Ginther and Michael Ginther; great-grandchildren, Kelsie and Justin McGranahan and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Pat and Geri Kelly.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Robin Ginther; four brothers, Robert, Donald, Kenneth and Jerry Ginther and a sister, Doris Snell.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 12 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Harold W. Stevenson Funeral Home LLC., 264 East State Street, Sharon Pennsylvania.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 13 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Doug Dyson, officiating.
Full military honors will be performed by the Sharon-Hermitage Honor Guard.
