Memorial services will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, November 3 at Lane Family Funeral Homes, 65 N. Broad Street, Canfield Chapel for Fred C. Hornickel, 93, of Canfield who died early Tuesday, October 23 at his residence.
Fred was born February 2, 1925 in Youngstown, a son of the late Fred F. and Mary E. (Zimmerman) Hornickel and was a lifelong area resident.
Fred worked at Truscon Steel for several years before becoming a salesman for the former McKelvey’s Department Store in the furniture and carpet department. He then became a self-employed salesman for Buhi Imports, where he worked until he retired at the age of 80.
Fred enjoyed gardening, woodworking and reading the Sunday comics. He loved his family and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be dearly missed.
His wife of 67 years, the former Isabelle Peplow whom he married September 18, 1945, died October 22, 2012.
He leaves his three daughters, Judy Hornickel, with whom he made his home, Sandra Mann of Cleveland and Mary Jane (Allen) Charles of Hubbard and his three grandsons, Jeremey, Keith (Amanda) and Brandon.
Besides his parents and his wife, Fred was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Jane Jones and Marilyn Freidenberger.
Friends may call on Saturday, November 3, 3:00 – 3:30 p.m, prior to the service at the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Canfield Chapel.
