JAMESTOWN, PA (MyValleyTributes) – Ernest J. Huffine, age 76, of Jamestown passed away Wednesday afternoon, May 8, 2019 in Nugent Convalescent Home, Hermitage.
He was born in McDonough, New York on March 21, 1943 a son of Herschel and Barbara (Shimer) Huffine.
In November of 1968, Ernie married the former Carol A. Mikulin, she passed away February 14, 2019.
Ernie spent 20 years in the military as his career, retiring from the United States Air Force in 1981. He became an instructor in the Air Force until fully retiring in 1996.
After retiring, Ernie and Carol moved to their cottage by Lake Pymatuning.
Ernie worked part-time at the Greenville Walmart.
Ernie was a friend to many. He was affectionately known as “Grandpa Ernie” by his granddaughter.
He was a member of the Jamestown VFW Post #5424, American Legion Post #140 and Jamestown Lion’s Club. He formed the AMVETS in Jamestown and had served as Post Commander, District Commander and State Webmaster of the VFW. He also served as a member of the Jamestown Fair Board.
He is survived by his children, Ernie Huffine, Jr., Neil Huffine and Beth Yarber all of Biloxi, Mississippi; three grandchildren, Jonathan and Jeremy Yarber of Dallas, Texas and Jessica Yarber of Biloxi, Mississippi; a sister, Arlene Smith; a brother, Glenn Huffine; a sister-in-law, Charlene Kay of Farrell and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and two brothers, Neil and Clifford Huffine.
A memorial service will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
