SALEM, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – Elizabeth Hawkins 83, of Salem, died at 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Youngstown.

She was born on February 4,1936 in Hume, New York, the daughter of the late Esther Elizabeth Hawkins.

She graduated from high school from the former Emmanuel Bible School in Salem.

She worked at the State of Ohio Land Reclamation office as a secretary. She had previously worked at the former Schmuel Bookstore.

She was a former member of the Salem Pilgrim Church then attended the Home Mission Church in Alliance. Elizabeth was a very active and caring person who could be counted on to volunteer whenever help was needed. She was a Sunday School teacher, a VBS teacher and on Saturdays, she taught the Sunbeams at the Seneca Street Mission in Alliance. She and her sister Ruth would visit and hold church services at Crandall Medical Center and Essex of Salem and sing at various holiness camp meetings.

She enjoyed cooking and canning. One of the main things that she was known for was wearing matching outfits with her sister, Ruth.

She is survived by her sister, Ruth Ann Hawkins of Salem and many friends.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, May 11, 3:30 p.m. at the Salem Wesleyan Methodist Church with Rev. Herb Smith, Rev Sam Gandee and Rev Stanley Grabill officiating.

A time of visitation will be held Friday, May 10, 2019 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at the church and Saturday, May 11, 2019 2:30 – 3:30 p.m.

There will be a private burial take place on Monday, May 13, 2019 in Hope Cemetery. 

Arrangements were entrusted to the care of the Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen & Sons Funeral and Cremation Services, Salem.
