Services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 2, 2018, at the Mt. Calvary Pentecostal Church, for Elder George Payton Jones, 75, of Youngstown, who transcended to his Heavenly home on Saturday, October 27, 2018, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Elder Jones, lovingly known as “Porgie” to many, was born September 6, 1943, in Youngstown, a son of Sloan, Sr. and Eva Williams Jones.
He attended South High School and was a United States Army veteran.
He was a faithful member of Mt. Calvary Pentecostal Church.
He worked 15 years at General Electric and also worked at General Motors Lordstown, retiring after 10 years.
He and his wife, owned and operated Altha Jane’s Baked Goods in the city of Youngstown for seven years.
He leaves to cherish his memories and to rejoice in his peace, his loving wife of 46 years, the former Altha Jane Mobley; his children, Ethel Lynn Jones, Quincy (Sabrina) Jones, both of Youngstown and Christopher George (Ta’Wana) Jones of Ramstein, Germany; his siblings, Sloan (Geraldine) Jones, Jr., of Mineral Ridge, Beverly (Elder Condridge) Smith of Warren, Attorney Reginald (Winsome) of Silver Springs, Maryland and Donna (Dr. Kenneth) Cowens of Atlanta, Georgia; four grandchildren, Lance Elliott Jones, Quincy Jones, Jr., Byron David Jones, Quavon Jones and a host of other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Mildred E. Feagins and a brother, Roy Lee Jones.
Calling hour will be Friday, November 2, 2018, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Calvary Pentecostal Church.
