WARREN, Ohio – Donald E. Rhoads, 84, of Warren, Ohio died Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at Gillette Nursing Home.
He was born October 20, 1933 in Massillon, Ohio, a son of the late Clyde Lloyd Rhoads and Irene Wagner Rhoads.
He married Mary Reed Rhoads on October 7, 1951 and they enjoyed 56 years together until her passing on July 6, 2008.
Donald began his career at the Timken Company in North Canton as a machinist. After relocating to Warren, he worked as a teacher at Warren G. Harding High School in the Machine Shop. From there he was employed at Packard Electric as a supervisor in the Tool and Die Department and also taught the machine trade apprentice program. After retirement from Packard Electric in 1993, Donald taught machine trades at the Kent State University, Salem branch.
In his younger years, Donald had a passion for hunting and fishing and in his later years he and his wife enjoyed traveling by motor home to nearly all 50 states with the exception of Oregon and Hawaii.
Donald loved the Lord and was a lifetime member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church.
It was an important aspect of his life as evidenced by how he opened his home to his children, grandchildren and their friends.
His memories will be cherished by two sons, Steven (Diane) Rhoads of Champion, Ohio and Donald (Tammy) Rhoads of Niles, Ohio; three daughters, Pamela (Larry) Curry of Cleveland, Ohio, Cindy Miller of Warren, Ohio and Christine (Jim) DeSavigny of Cherry Valley, Ohio; 19 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren along with a brother, Ken (Patricia) Rhoads of Massillon, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary L. Rhoads; a daughter, Mary Jane Rhoads and a son, Clyde Andrew Rhoads.
Funeral services will be held at the Otterbein Methodist Church, 1128 State Road, Champion on Tuesday, February 13 at 1:00 p.m.
Friends may call at the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home on Monday, February 12 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and again at the church on Tuesday, February 13 from 12:00 Noon until service time which begins at 1:00 p.m.
