Dennis J. Swartz, age 65, of 136 Powell Road, Butler, Pennsylvania, formerly of 91 Plum Street, Greenville, Pennsylvania passed away Monday, February 11, 2019, at home of complications of brain cancer.
He was born In Greenville on July 24, 1953, to Russell and Marie (McCann) Swartz.
Denny was employed by Greenville Steel Car followed by Trinity Industries.
During layoffs he was quick with a drink and a smile at several local watering holes where he bartended. He was an ardent outdoorsman and lover of music, he spent many an evening enjoying his Merle Haggard collection. He loved his Pittsburgh sports teams and was quick to tell you what the players and ownership had messed up to prevent a championship. He loved traditional country music and the Grateful Dead but was always looking out for new bands that would catch his ear. A lifelong fitness fanatic, he ran six miles prior to going to the emergency department where he obtained the diagnosis that took his life. He was an excellent story teller and wouldn’t let the fact that you’d heard the story multiple times dissuade him from telling it passionately. He loved the movie Lonesome Dove and you knew you were a close friend if he called you a name from the movie. He loved life and was happiest sitting by a fire with a cocktail in his hand, listening to music, laughing with his friends. A lover of a good time, his motto was that he would enjoy his part of whatever was going around. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Denny is survived by a son, Matthew Swartz of Greenville; a daughter, Sherry Adams and her husband, Andrew, of Butler; his former wife, Christina Huhn of Greenville; three grandchildren, Jasmin Randall, Avery Adams and Austin Adams, all of Butler; three sisters, Martha Palm of Greenville, Joan Aug of Luther, Michigan and Mary Rushmore and her husband, Martin, of Jamestown; three brothers, Levern Swartz and his wife, Sis, John Swartz and Regis Swartz and his wife, Patricia, all of Greenville; as well as, many nieces and nephews, who will all greatly miss their Uncle Den.
