YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – Charles “Dewey” Jenkins, 81, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at 11:48 a.m. in his home. He was surrounded by his loving family.
Charles was born on June 4, 1937 in Little Birch, West Virginia as the youngest of many, many brothers and sisters. He was the last surviving child to carry on the legacy of his parents.
He was a veteran in the United States Army and was honorably discharged on December 10, 1963.
At the age of 17, he moved to Youngstown where he worked for 40 years as the head welder at Sheet & Tube/LTV Steel.
On August 10, 1957, he married the love of his life, Margaret “Peggy” (Ferry) Jenkins. They were married for 61 and a half years. Together they raised a family of seven children. He was proud of each of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Charles was known as a gentle giant and a kind man by all who had the privilege of meeting him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Hesekiah Jenkins; his mother, Martha Chloe (Burks) Jenkins; his many, many siblings and his granddaughter, Angellya Jenkins.
He will be greatly missed by his wife, Margaret “Peggy” (Ferry) Jenkins; his seven children, Charles David Jenkins, Charlotte (Charles “Lee”) Stephenson, Robert (fiancée, Angela) Jenkins, Charon (Mark) Cuprik, Ronnie Jenkins, Jodie (Fred) Gromley and Brenda (James) Johnson; his grandchildren, Charles Jenkins, Denise Jenkins, Courtney Jenkins, Justin Jenkins, Rachel Stephenson, Garret Stephenson, Robert Jenkins, William (Jasmine) Jenkins, Brittany (Justin) Judy, Alyssa Cuprik, Markie Cuprik, Cynthia Jenkins, Alex Gromley, Vince Gromley, Ben Gromley, Daniel Johnson, Zachary Johnson and his eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial celebration, officiated by Pastor Mark Cuprik, his son-in-law, held in honor of the life of Charles Jenkins will take place on Saturday, April 13 at Victory Christian Center’s Boardman Campus, located at 8590 Hitchcock Road, Boardman, OH 44512.
Calling hours will take place from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the church, with a memorial service to follow at 1:00 p.m.
