WARREN, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – Lewis M. Merwin, Sr., 82, of Champion, passed away Sunday morning, April 14, 2019, at the Ohio Living Lake Vista Rehab Center in Cortland.

He was born September 18, 1936 in Newton Falls, a son of Jessie and Lila (Senes) Merwin.

Lewis was employed in transportation for the former Rebublic, LTV, WCI Steel in Warren for 45 years, prior to retiring.

He married the former Joann (Castle) Steventon on May 25, 1991. They shared almost 28 years of marriage and many happy memories together. She survives him.

Lewis was a member of Believers Church in Warren.

He was a firearms enthusiast and enjoyed hunting and watching Westerns. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, whom he dearly loved.

Besides his wife, Lewis is survived by six children, Lillian Malys of Bazetta, Kim (Forest) Pealer of Champion, Rebecca (Mike) Greenwalt of Youngstown, Lewis M. Merwin, Jr. of Naples, Florida, Kenneth (Laura) Merwin of Bazetta and Brenda (Thomas) Starr of Howland. He also leaves behind three sisters, Lucille Daniles of North Carolina, Leona Sharack of Warren and Cleo Gwyer of Mecca; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his former wife, Gloria (Merten) Merwin; his parents; a son, Robert Steventon; three brothers, Harry, Leland and Warren Merwin; three sisters, Virginia Senes, Betty LeLaidier and Ila Mae Boyd; a grandson, Sean Hall and a son-in-law, Edward “Sonny” Malys.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 19, 2019, at the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home, 533 North Park Avenue, Warren, with Pastor Bill Carter officiating.

Friends may call 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 19 at the funeral home prior to services.

Interment will take place in the Pineview Memorial Park, Warren.
