Genevieve Smith, 94, of Warren, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2019, at her home.

She was born February 15, 1925, in Valier, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Andrew and Violet (Starr) Bush. Genevieve was a true coal miners daughter and lived roughly 200 feet from the mine’s entrance.

Genevieve was a 1942 graduate of Nanty Glo High School. Following high school, she graduated from Wil-Mar Beauty School in 1957 and also Warren School of Beauty in 1958.

Genevieve owned Genevieve’s Beauty Shop. She was also the Secretary and Vice President of Starr Fabricating, retiring in 2006.

In her earlier years, she attended North Mar CM&A Church where her ministries included: Deaconess, VBS leader, Sunday school teacher, hospitality leader and home Bible study host and leader. For over 40 years, Genevieve hosted a Friday night Bible study. She hosted three weddings, two church services and the 100th celebration of the CM&A in her back yard. In her later years, she attended Calvary Bible Church in Cortland.

Her main love was the Lord, family and friends. One of her greatest joys was serving others.

Genevieve is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Tom Smith of Warren, Ohio; daughter, Linda Kable of Columbus, Ohio; grandsons, Adam and Jason; brothers, Bernard (Barb) Bush, Jim Bush and David (Christine) Bush and several nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her parents, Genevieve was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert, William and Richard Bush and two infant brothers, Donald and Edward.

Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2019, at Calvary Bible Church, 4747 Warren Road NE, Cortland, OH 44410.

Friends may call from 12:00 – 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 6 at the church prior to services.

Entombment will be in Crown Hill Burial Park, Vienna, Ohio.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home, 533 North Park Avenue, Warren, Ohio.

A television tribute will air Friday, April 5 at the following approximate times: 6:41 a.m. WYTV and 8:41 a.m. MyYTV and 9:58 a.m. on FOX plus two additional spots throughout the day.
