SALEM, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) – Matthew J. Greenisen, 46, of Southgate, Michigan (formerly of Salem) died at 10:25 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2020, at Select Speciality Hospital in Youngstown of respiratory complications related to scleroderma. He was surrounded by family and passed peacefully.

Matthew was born on May 21, 1974, in Salem, the son of Philip and Marjory (Staples) Greenisen.

He attended Salem City Schools and graduated from Salem Senior High School in 1992. Matt played Little League baseball and was a member of the percussion section in the SHS marching band. He attended the Ohio State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Materials Science Engineering in Metallurgy. During college, he worked in the metallurgical laboratory at Worthington Industries, Worthington, Ohio analyzing steel.

After graduation, he was employed at Duferco Farrell Steel near Sharon, Pennsylvania and WCI Steel in Warren, Ohio in their metallurgical labs.

He returned to the Ohio State University in 2001 to earn a Master’s in Business Administration. Since graduating with his MBA in 2003, Matt has been employed at the Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, Michigan, currently as a Corporate Purchasing Engineer.

In 2015, he purchased a Craftsman style bungalow in Southgate, Michigan, which he thoroughly enjoyed reviving. His home has offered him the opportunity to enjoy tending to his plants, both indoors and outdoors. He enjoyed rare coins and first edition books. Data mining was an ongoing passion of his and if he didn’t have a spreadsheet he was obligated to analyze, he would just create his own. He had a keen interest in the family farm and mapped the fields with his drone, as well as reclaimed the old orchard to open grassland from dense underbrush. He always enjoyed brightening someone’s day with an unexpected gift. An item inspired by a conversation might just show up on one’s porch someday. He also enjoyed offering learning opportunities to children that they might not have had through Michigan’s Educational Savings Program.

Matt was a devoted son and loving brother who leaves a legacy of caring, compassion and random acts of kindness. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

He is survived by his parents, Philip and Marjory (Staples) Greenisen of Salem, as well as his sister, Cheryl (Greenisen) Molnar and brother-in-law, Michael Molnar of Lebanon, Ohio. He also leaves behind cherished aunts, uncle and cousins.

Private calling hours and funeral will be live-streamed from the Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen & Sons Funeral and Cremation Services on Saturday, May, 30, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. The stream will start at 1:30 p.m. Links to the stream will be on the funeral home’s website and Facebook page at 1:30 p.m.
