YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN)- The blue “Energy Star” sticker on things like appliances, air conditioners, and windows is known as the benchmark for energy efficiency. The government-backed symbol is meant to provide credible and unbiased information for consumers and businesses to rely on and make informed decisions.
Window Depot of Youngstown is known for a lot of things and one of those is just how energy-efficient its windows are. Especially as things in the industry change and progress, just as they will soon be with Energy Star.
“Energy Star requirements are going to be changing in October,” said Window Depot owner and operator Rich Begalla. “People not only need to know about these changes but some tax incentives that come with it as well.”
Energy Star makes its requirements based on climate zones and then thrives to find a balance between getting the maximum energy efficiency in the winter and the summer. It’s released what it calls “Version 7.0 Requirements” stating any residential windows, doors, or skylights manufactured as of October 23, 2023, must meet these new requirements to be Energy Star certified and bear the label.
But Window Depot of Youngstown is already ahead of the game.
“Instead of two panes of glass, we do three panes of glass. So we’ve already exceeded the new Energy Star requirements,” said Begalla. “It also qualifies for the new tax credit through Energy Star’s ‘Most Efficient’ program. With our windows, homeowners can claim up to a $600 tax credit.”
Window Depot of Youngstown windows are rated #1 by ProVia in quality for vinyl windows. It also has a five-star reputation and A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau.
