AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) - The gym floor at Austintown Fitch High School that was destroyed in early summer by water from a broken pipe has been replaced and is almost ready to use.
The new floor is down, but is still being finished.
The three-point areas and center jump spot have been stained. One end of the floor will have "Austintown" written on it, the middle will have "Fitch," and "Falcons" will be on the other end.
Mal Culp, supervisor of facilities and operations, says Fitch fans will notice the difference.
"The construction is completely different. It's now a random plank instead of the stacked plank it was before. It's got a natural maple finish instead of dark and light areas, and the artwork on it is a vast change of how it used to be. It'll be spectacular to view."
Insurance paid the $300,000 cost.
The first event on the new floor will be a pep rally on October 28 before the football game with Cardinal Mooney.
