Voters chose Republican Michael Rulli to take Ohio’s 33rd State Senate seat.
In 2017, the small business owner announced he would run, saying he wants the state to pay more attention to the Mahoning Valley.
Rulli says he wants more jobs, better schools and safer communities.
As a director of operations for Rulli Bros. Markets, he claims he will be an advocate for other small businesses.
Rulli is a Poland graduate and has served on the Leetonia School Board. He says he will work to bring greater communication and cooperation between families and schools, and make districts more financially responsible while improving test scores.
He wants to keep people in this area, saying too many families have been moving to other places where “the grass is greener.”
Rulli is also focused on criminal justice reform, saying sending people to prison should be a last resort instead of a first response. He wants to decrease the country’s prison population, reduce prison sentences and eliminate mandatory minimum sentences for low-level drug offenders.
He’s replacing Democrat Sen. Joe Schiavoni, whose term ends this year.
