Kristen McFarland is a multimedia journalist, having joined the WKBN-27 First News team in the spring of 2022.
Growing up in Columbus, Ohio, Kristen is a graduate of Olentangy Liberty High School, where she excelled as both a student and soccer player, which earned her a scholarship to Florida State University. As a member of the women’s soccer team, Kristen won the 2018 NCAA National Championship, defeating the University of North Carolina 1-0.
Kristen earned a bachelor’s degree in media communications and journalism from Florida State and was involved with Seminole Media Productions.
After graduation, she returned to Ohio, where she interned at NBC 4 in Columbus.
Following her dream to play professional soccer, Kristen enjoyed a season as a member of SC Heerenveen in the Netherlands.
When she is away from the newsroom, Kristen enjoys working out, reading and spending time with her family and friends.
She is excited to be a member of the WKBN-27 news team and looks forward to getting to know the people of the Mahoning Valley and telling their stories.
