Following last night's rain out in Aberdeen, Mahoning Valley travels to Norwich to take on the Connecticut Tigers. The Scrappers will have Caleb Hamrick (1-5, 4.97 ERA, 25 Ks) on the mound. The 2012 8th-round pick out of Cedar Hills, Texas – the 6'2 right hander has allowed 26 runs over his last six starts which has included 34 hits and 12 free passes.
Despite dropping their last outing, the Scrappers are one of the hottest teams in all of NYPL, having won ten of their last thirteen contests. Even with all the success they've had as of late, Mahoning Valley trails Jamestown (Pirates) by ten games in the Pinckney Division.
The Tigers selected Jonathon Crawford with their first selection in the 2013 Draft (20th pick). The righty from Florida has accumulated a 2.20 ERA in 16.1 innings pitched with 18 strikeouts this summer for Connecticut. Their second round pick is also in Norwich. Kevin Ziomek, the 58th selection from Vanderbilt, has only tossed 8 innings in 4 games while compiling a 4.50 ERA. Detroit used their first seven choices of the 2013 Draft on pitching. Three of them (the other being Buck Farmer) are playing for Connecticut.
