Columbus Day

Just a reminder, that tomorrow is Columbus Day, and that means many closures due to the holiday. All county, state and federal offices and courts will be closed including driver's license and photo centers. There will be no mail delivery, except for express mail. Most banks will also be closed. But, state liquor stores will be open tomorrow as scheduled.

In honor of Columbus Day, the Butler Art Museum's newest display Christopher Columbus, Man of Courage, Man of Faith was unveiled today. It will be on display in its new Education Center which is adjacent to the museum until October 26. A special gift created for First Lady Laura Bush is also part of the exhibit, and it has some local connections.

"THIS IS TRULY FROM THE VERY HEART OF OHIO AND OHIO'S MOTTO THE HEART OF IT ALL, SO AS WE LOOK AROUND THE FAR CORNERS WHERE ALL THESE EFFORTS HAVE TRAVELED IT STILL ORIGINATES FROM US."

The gift plate was made at The East Palestine China Company, the original graphic work was done at Salem Graphics and the custom mounting was also done in Boardman. It will be taken to New Haven, Connecticut and held there at the Knights of Columbus Museum until the President and Mrs. Bush visit Yale, his alma mater.
