Rainy Canfield Fair

For many Valley residents, the Canfield Fair marks the last hooray of the summer.

But so far this year, mother nature is raining on their parade.

Jim Evans, Fairboard Member says, "Its been wet. Yesterday was wet and this morning was wet.  We had concerns about the ribbon cutting."

However, come rain or shine, most avid fair goers are ready for the elements.

Jackie Bricker with Goshen Good Growers says, "Well basically we always bring a tent because whether its raining or sunny it keeps the elements off you.  We always pack rain gear and extra clothes."

And those extra clothes come in handy when the mercury dips below the normal late summer highs.

Carol Zimmerman explains, "I actually have my long underwear on because we come out at 5:30 am and so its really chilly at that point

If you're not ready for those pop rain showers, don't worry. The fair boards got your back with their very own ponchos and umbrellas. Ready or not, just as the vendors dish out the delectable fair treats, the skies over the Valley always serve up unpredictable weather, leaving fair organizers to wonder when the crowds will come.

Timm Schriber on the Fair Board states, "Usually a lot of people try to come out on a Wednesday or Thursday. Then hit again on the weekend, so now they'll probably come out extra on the weekend. So we're anticipating very a big Saturday and Sunday."

And a big dose of optimism never hurts those predictions.

Jim Evans says, "Its through. Its done raining. Everything is drying up now and we're ready to go."
