It was a big fight in Warren: How much of the old Harding High School to save, and how much to get rid of. Wednesday, though, the arguments were silenced as we got a peek at the new facility, and all it has to offer. It's out with the old, and in with the new for Warren G. Harding High School in Warren. After more than 80 years in their previous building, starting next Tuesday, they will open the doors of a brand-new high school.
Kathyrn Hellweg, Warren Harding Superintendent; "IT'S A MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR STATE OF THE ART FACILITY. FANTASTIC CLASSROOM INSTRUCTIONAL FACILITIES."
The new school boasts spacious hallways and classrooms, equipped with the latest technology available to help improve the students' learning experience.
Hellweg; "IT'S A FACILITY THAT WILL SUPPORT STUDENT LEARNING. THE FACILITY IS GRAND. BUT IT'S WHAT WILL HAPPEN INSIDE THE WALLS THAT WILL TEST ITS SUCCESS."
This building is a lot different from the old Harding high school. Students and teachers alike agree they can't wait to get started in the new facility.
Melanie Hameed, Harding 10th Grade Teacher; "I'M SO EXCITED FOR MY KIDS TO COME OVER HERE. IT'S MADE A NEW TEACHER OUT OF ME."
Amber Russell, Harding Sophomore; "THIS SCHOOL IS HUGE. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT. OUR BAND ROOM, SO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FROM LAST YEAR. I LOVE IT. IT'S AMAZING HERE."
But even with an all-new building, the district realizes how important the past is.
Hellweg; "NOTHING CAN CHANGE THE HISTORY OF THE HIGH SCHOOL, AND THOSE MEMORIES AND THOSE TRADITIONS WILL BE BROUGHT FORWARD, EVEN AS WE ESTABLISH NEW TRADITIONS AND CREATE NEW MEMORIES."
The public will get a chance to see the new school at an open house on September 21st.
